The sun was shining so we went up onto our roof terrace for some sun before heading into town. We walked around the massive imperial complex. Lots of old walls and big intricately decorated doorways. We had to fend off a few people trying to get us to take a horse and carriage ride but so far have seen little of the famed Morocco hassle. We walked around a very nice artificial lake before heading into the stables. The stables were massive and in the past held ten thousand horse. In the evening we plunged into the medina were soon lost and crushed in the crowds. Emerged sometime later having bought nothing ready for dinner.
We waited about an hour for the bus to Moulay Idriss. Once on it took a long time to do the 30 odd kilometers to Moulay Idriss such is life on the local bus. We got off on the edge of town and walked along the road to Volubilis. On the side of the road the villagers were busy shaking olives free of there branches. Volubilis is the ruin of a roman town and a quite substantial one. The most amazing thing was not the temples, pillars or the magnificent triumphal arch but the mosiacs. Some of the colours were still so vivid despite two thousand years having passed. The one I like the best was of hercules and his twelve labours. I have to admit I can not remember them all. We spent a good few hours amongst the ruins of Volubilis before heading up to Moulay Idriss. We had a nice lunch and then walked up to get a good view over the town and down to the tomb of Moulay Idriss. The bus seemed to make better speed back to town. For dinner amid confusion I eneded up with half a chciken rice chips and bread. A lot of food but I managed it and it cost about two pounds. Feeling full we were in bed early.
