Arrived in Chefchoauen early booked into our hotel and headed out. We were staying inside the medina we had a nice roof terrace, but a bit of a cloudy day. The medina was very picturesque, with nearly all the buildings painted blue. The backdrop of the imposing rif mountians just added to the feel of a very special place. We went into the Kasbah a nice fort in the middle of the medina. The art gallery was a bit disapointing no pictures just empty frames. Not sure if this was some kind of minamalist modern art but not impressed. We went on a short walk through a graveyard to a ruined mosque. We had a great view of the city below. First day and I think every five minutes or so someone asked us if we wanted weed. The Rif is responsible for over 40 percent of the worlds cannabis.

Next day the sun shining bright and we headed up Jebel El-Kelaà the peak behind the town. It was a good hike up all the way a little tiring. We saw very few people except for goat herders who tried to sell us weed of course. The veiws were spectacular of the valley and the surrounding peaks. At the top of the track we went east up a very steep precarious crag we should of gone west. However the veiws from the top were amazing we could see all the way to the med. For once on top of a mountain and great views. When we got back to the hotel discovered by going the wrong way we had climbed an extra 500 meters. We made it down just before dark and went out to eat in a resturant called the magic lamp. The waiter was dressed ridicously like alladin. The food however was good traditional Moroccan. Been eating Moroccan since we got to Chefchoauen cuscous, tagine and great salads and soups.

Legs and bums ached, we flirted with the idea of leaving but in the end decided to stay another night. We did little that day but wandered around the medina a nice relaxing way to spend the day. Had lots of hot traditional Morrocan tea think it is giving me a sweet tooth but very good to keep you warm in the chill mountain air.
