Day 34 - Port Douglas, QLD
Monday 16th November
We took off from Cooktown after a bit of a rough night as the rain that had been threatening finally came and of course, we weren't prepared!
Up and out of the tent early am packing everything up and putting under the awning closing all windows in the tent as the rain was coming in and then lying there thinking this is going to be a pain when we have to pack up in 4-5hrs time!
Once we woke at about 7.30ish we inspected the damage and it wasn't to bad. Everything held up pretty well and we had set a tarp up over the top of the tent acting as a bit of a fly to keep the tent in shade and this worked well at keeping the tent dry with the rain.
The sun soon came out in the morn and dried everything out pretty quick which allowed us to still be packed up and ready to go by about 9.30ish.
We then revisited our little coffee shop and had a bit of brekky and wrote some postcards before heading to the James Cook Museum for a gander!
We had decided to continue travelling with Matt, Rachel and Sonny and we all headed off towards the Bloomfield track heading for Cape tribulation and Daintree.
We stopped at the cape tribulation beach and the Daintree ice cream place before leaving Matt, Rachel & Sonny behind and headed for the ferry across the Daintree river and pushed on to port Douglass.
Civilisation! "Shops" Milly yells! "Woolworths!, they've got a Woolworths" she continues!
Jed's thought bubble was "oh dear, there goes our budget for this week"
After a bit of mucking around and back and forth we decided on the tropic breeze caravan park and pulled in and setup. After chatting to the caretakers at the park they said the forecast was for rain so we did our best this time to weather proof our gear and the tent before the rain hit. (If it was actually going too)
It was about 7.30 and we went for a stroll up the Main Street looking for somewhere to have dinner! I had nothing but pizza on my mind and Milly eventually agreed and we strolled into Mango Jam for a cracking pizza each and a champagne and corona!
Back to camp for a shower and straight into the tent to try and sleep on a half flat air mattress as our pump battery had gone flat whilst Milly was pumping the mattress up!
