Day 37 - Cairns, Qld
Thursday 19th November
Last night we had a bit of a farewell with our travel buddies and sat up until 1am after a few beers and wines as we prob won't see these guys again. Or not for a while until they pass through Adelaide on their trip anyway.
We had to have an early start to wash the car before packing all our gear up (as we decided to go to the inlet and watch the big groper get fed and then decided to go fishing with Matt instead of washing the car the yesterday afternoon/evening)
Pulled in another toadfish
Also had a couple of other good hits. Something took my line and ran with it with absolutely no chance of me stopping him or turning it around before it snapped me off luckily before taking all my line off the reel. Locals that were there believe it may have been a stingray but I reckon got was just the great big one that got away! (The biggest mackerel ever to be caught- had I got it in)
After finishing the pack up in the morn and saying our good byes we completed one last pass through the shops in port Douglas then headed for Mossman gorge. We stopped off for a bite to eat in Mossman before heading out to the gorge.
On the way out to the gorge we pulled up to watch a couple of farmers harvesting their sugar cane.
We caught the shuttle up to the gorge and went for a walk along the board walk to all the lookouts and eventually reaching the little swimming hole which was quite busy.
Milly managed to spot a couple of Ulysses butterflies on our walk which was pretty cool as their bright blue wings are amazing.
After finishing at the gorge we drove back along the coast and pulled in at Palm cove for a quick look and had an ice cream! Beat ice cream yet. (homemade from a little ice creamery on the esplanade).
We then toured on south down the coast to Cairns to catch up with Judd, Tanya, Jack & Harry.
