Day 28 - Bramwell Junction Roadhouse
We left the most beautiful place so far (Punsand Bay) and headed south. It was a funny feeling as we were sort of coming down from a high from making the tip and it was sort of the end to that stage of our trip. We had another stop off in Bamaga for some more supplies and then took a detour out to see a couple of old plane wrecks from World War 2. We then headed for the ferry, bypassing a couple of side trips that I wanted to do as Milly's phobia of crocs was getting to great and she wanted nothing to do with any more rivers or secluded places where they might be lurking!
When we jumped on the ferry, the operator asked us "have you checked the weather?" This made me a tad nervous as we said "no we haven't". He then replied with "thunderstorms from Weipa south. It's been bucketing down!" We thought, oh dear, this could be interesting. We headed off expecting the worst, but in the end all we got were a couple of spots on the windscreen. The storms were very patchy and had passed by the time we got to Bramwell Junction Roadhouse.
It was easy to see though that there had been a lot of rain in some parts as you could still see traces of where water had flowed over the roads or had washed a lot of debris into the table drains etc.
On the trip up north we met another couple and their son (Matt, Rachel & Sonny) on the Old Tele Track and had basically travelled with them throughout our trip to the tip. We all sort of had the same interests and the same plan in place so it worked well. They left Punsand Bay a day earlier than us and we had sort of made a rough plan of meeting up again at Bramwell.
Day 28 - Tuesday 10th November
It was a relaxed but early start today as we packed up our camp in beautiful Punsand Bay and prepared to hit the road again. Packing up went smoothly and we were on the road ready to turn this trip on its head and start heading South. After stocking up on supplies in Bamaga and Seisia we drove out to see some WWII plane wrecks: a DC3 Aircraft and Beaufort Bomber. The wrecks got me thinking of Papa and his experience flying (similar?) planes in WWII. Jed also got me out in the scrub looking for a 3rd wreck but we didn't have any luck. I put my foot down when it looked like we might be wandering into some swampy country (such a killjoy
