Finally a day of smooth sailing :)
We caught our plane to Bangkok from Ko Samui airport. This is the coolest airport I have ever seen. It's all outdoors and tropical gardens with the gates in big bamboo huts theres even a small stream running through it. Google images it now and take a look!
Arrived in Bangkok around 11:30am got in a pimped out pink taxi to Koh Saan road. Luckily I remembered where the hostel was that I had stayed in twice before so we went there and checked in for one night. Only a fan room left. Ahhhhhhhh. Can't cope with the heat!
Headed straight out to tick off all the sight seeing and touristy things. As soon as we stepped onto the street a guy came up to us and "where you going? I will take you to here here and here for 20baht in my tuk tuk (cheapest and coolest means of transport around). That was a bargain so we took it. Saw the tallest standing Buddha and temple where the monks were doing a daily ceremony. We walked back to where he left us and the guy had gone..... Just abandoned us half way through our tour, luckily we hadn't paid him anything yet and it turned out we wernt that far from our hostel. We did some shopping and got a 30 minute foot massage which was really good. Then we booked ourselves on to the overnight sleeper train for our ride to Chiang mai the following day. We also took a boat ride along the river and saw all the sights as well as the houses on shaky stilts that lined the banking and looked like they could collapse any minute.
That night we headed out and the only place to be in Bangkok is Koh Saan road. The place comes alive in a way you can't describe but can only reccomend the experience! The street food is amazing, we both got pad Thai. You get to choose your own noodles and whether you want egg, chicken or pork with it. Then you add your own spices and sauce. Yum yum! After that we sat in several bars on the street and watched everything that was going on around us. Kirstie saw her first ladyboy and then lots more after that!! We also took the plunge and tried some insect's. The choice was between worms, crickets, cockroaches and fried scorpian which is what we got. It took us ages to take the first bite and it was washed down quickly with water. Its basically just really crunchy and salty. We couldn't manage it all though.
The next day we took a tuk tuk ride to the grand palace and Kirstie robed herself up and walked around it. I had seen it before so just sat near entrance. It is a very impressive set of buildings and its a must see for everyone.
We found out from the ticket office that there actually wasn't availability on the train for us even though the wowmn said there was and had taken a deposit from us. We got this back and went to another agency to get the overnight bus because all the trains were full. We was not very happy about this because it meant we didn't have a bed for the night.
Had to get another message after we heard the news but at least we had a seat on the bus!
Arrived early this morning in Chiang mai
