Hello Thailand!
My second home these days!
So because of the change of flight we didn't end up flying into Ko Samui airport like the original plan. Our plane landed in Surat thani around 1.5hrs away. We didn't realise this when we booked the flight haha.
So after sorting transport to koh phangan which was a coach, a ferry, a mini bus then a fast boat to the 'full moon'. This is what they kept saying 'full moon yes full moon'. We said yeah koh phangan. They said yes. Little did we know that the boat actually dropped us off at haad rin beach where the full moon party was already in full swing (11.30pm) There we were pushing through the crowds of drunk, neon painted people with our massive backpacks on & totally fed up! We walked around for ages trying to find a taxi. We asked loads of local people and they all sent us in different directions. Kirstie was so fed up she acted like a bull charging through the streets. In the end we finally got a ride to our hostel called Shiralea backpackers resort in the area of haad yao. At least 30mins from full moon. I said to Kirstie I'm not sure if I want to go back! She said I'm not f***king going back there now. Lol. We just didn't have the strength to put our party clothes on and spend another night without sleep. So unfortunately there was nonfull moon for us.
Very long day indeed. Just when we needed some luck we got it. The young guy who was half drunk working behind the bar was just about to lock up for the night but thankfully he gave us a key to a room and said we will do a proper check in tomorrow. When we got into our room the sight of a shower and bed was heaven.
In this long day I had been bitten on the backs of both my legs. It was a line of around 10 bites on each one. That's with wearing 100% deet repellant as well. The little b*****s!
We had already decided that the next day we were going to lay in and do nothing but chill on the beach. So thats exactly what we did between eating and drinking. We also booked a boat trip to Ko Tao and Ko Nangyuan and had a swim in the pool.
That night I had my favourite Thai food - chicken Massaaman curry and Kirstie had a crispy noodle dish.
The next morning we woke early to catch our pick up for the boat trip. It was a full day trip to two islands including breakfast and lunch for 1900baht. The first stop was a snorkel in lovely warm waters. The visisbilty wasn't great but still saw plenty of fish. 2nd stop was Ko Nangyuan. This is 2 small beautiful islands in the middle of the sea near Ko Tao, attached in the middle by a beach. It was beautiful. We took the hike to the top of one of the islands and got the picture postcard shot of us on the rock over looking the bay. Then we had a swim in the sea and a little sunbathe before heading back to the boat. Last stop was Ko Tao which I would recommend staying at. We had a buffet lunch their and walked around the town. Then came the torrential downpour and when it rains in Thailand, it rains! The street flooded after about 10mins. The tour guide said we will have to wait to go back because the island has disappeared - no visisbilty what so ever.
The ride back was a bumpy one. Don't think I've been at sea when it's been that choppy. By the time we got back to dock. Eveybody was drenched, one person was sick and people had sore voices from screaming every time the boat made a big crash on the waves.
Fun day all in all.
That night we had drinks at our hostel and watched a tour group play batrle of the sexes. Girls won - obviously ;) Then went out for dinner at a restaraunt on the beach. I had my second favourite Thai dish - vegetable green curry and Kirstie had spag bol because she reckons she is done with Thai food now haha! Least you have it a shot girl.
We've been here 3 nights.
Next stop Bangkok
Xoxo
