We arrived in the kingdom of Cambodia around midday. Poor Kirstie was still feeling very ill and had decided to go home early. Me and Nat went out for some food and then headed to the night market. By far the best one I have been to yet. It was really pretty and clean and there was really nice bars and food places scattered in between. We bought loads of Nick nacks and souvenirs such as cool rice bowls, Cambodian dancer figures and we got a $1 foot massage just because we could!
The next morning we said a sad goodbye to Kirstie and went on our Sunrise temples of Angkor tour. It picked us up at 5:30am, there was only 6 of us and all girls. Guys to lazy to get up haha.
We watched the sun rise from behind the temple of Angkor Wat, by far the best temples in Asia in my opinion. We tried to get the perfect shot but the weather wasn't playing nice. It was pretty cloudy but still amazing! After sunrise we had a guided tour around the temple which is over 850 Years old and its walls are half a mile long on each side. Angkor is the Khemer meaning of 'city' and Wat means 'temple'. The grounds are huge and to see it all it would take you a full day.
Next stop was Angkor Thom, a unique temple supported by tree roots that wrap around the temples structure. Visitors approach 2 million annually, and the entire expanse, including Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom is collectively protected as an UNESCO world heritage site.
It was time for lunch and we got taken out of the grounds to a small restaurant looking over the lakes that surround it. It was reaching midday and the heat was very dry, we only had one more temple to tick off.
The last temple we saw was the face towers of Bayon. It is like a maze when you enter with faces carved on every side of the walls. It was made by King Jayavarman VII when he made Buddhism the state religion of his kingdom.
It was a great tour worth $35pp including entrance fee.
That night we splashed out a little and went to a posh restaurant over looking the city where a live band was playing. Afterwards we headed to Pub Street for some drinks. We sit down at the busiest looking bat called Temple Bar. We were 2 drinks in when all of a sudden a limo pulls up outside with camera men behind and a guy gets out and everyone starts taking photographs. Me and Nat look at each other like who is that and what's going on?! He starts drinking a few tables away from us, then he orders like 20 bottles of corona. The next thing we know we are being asked to star in an Asian Hip Hop video for DJ Cake. Not heard of him myself but whatever it's free drinks! :) So all we have to do is dance in the street in front of the bar with him and a group of randomly selected people and have a good time whilst they film us. That's how we roll....!! When it was over we got a picture with him and then continued the party inside. We made it to 1 more bar after that then went home. We had a blast but wished Kirstie was with us.
