Singapore
We safely arrived in Singapore on Tuesday evening after catching the fast boat from Lombok to Bali then a flight from Bali to Changi airport. When you read in a guide book that you should try and avoid the fast boats and take ferries which are 30 minutes longer, I now understand why, but we had no choice we are on a strict schedule haha. These things go a million miles an hour crashing down really hard over the big waves swaying from sided to side and being too hot and cramped. Easy way to catch a headache I say!
After a smooth plane ride we got a taxi to our hostel Sleepy kiwi in the Arab district of Singapore where the taxi driver served as our guide to all the ins and outs of the city. If you ever travel to Singapore you must be aware of the taxis.... past 6pm they have a 25% surcharge also between 6am and 9am and then past 12pm they have a 50% surcharge and never get in a black taxi, they are ridiculously expensive. So try and avoid them as much as possible, the best way is by MRT or local buses.
We didn't really like our hostel it was a weird set up and the staff gave us no information. Our dorm room was dark, dingy and really small for 16 people. There was also no air conditioning which made it stuffy.
That night we headed straight to the night safari. We only made it in time for the last tram around the park. As usual we got lost navigating our way around the city going up and down roads and escalators that wasn't necessary! I just don't know how we manage it. It was one of those 'have to be there' moments thats ended up a standing joke now.
The night safari looked amazing I would recommend this for everyone and it is a top attraction anyway. There is loads of wild animals and the tram takes you round the whole park then you can do walking trails which we weren't able to do because we got there too late :(
The next day we hopped on and off the hippo sightseeing bus (33 Singapore dollars) and saw all the major attractions of the city including Marina Bay, Gardens by the bay, Botanic gardens, Chinatown, Little India, Singapore river and Orchard road. Gardens by the bay are really cool and I would recommend seeing it at night when it's all lit up. The botanic gardens are a nice place to relax and it's free.
The day was great apart from one little thing - the heat!! 33'c in a city walking around all day does not suit Stephanie. I very nearly had a breakdown. I'm not kidding you I just could not cool down anywhere even when inside air conditioned rooms. I drank 4 bottles of water and was still sweating like mad. Kirstie just laughed at me whilst trying to cheer me up with food.
The city is very clean, modern, expensive and culturally diverse. It has every cuisine imaginable so you are spoilt for choice.
Little facts - it was the first place in the world to get electronic toll booths and the Marina hotel cost 5.1 billion dollars to make.
After an exhausting day we had some down time and a cold shower then headed out to a few local bars in our district. It has a very cool atmosphere and each bar like represents a different country and most have live bands playing all night. We got peckish on the way back to our hostel and sat down for some Turkish food - soooo good!
Off we went again to our 3rd destination.
This afternoon we arrived in Kuala Lumpur.
