Mikahla's Adventures Abroad
Hey guys, sorry it's been a while, we had some internet problems at the house and I have been really busy resting:) The trip to the mountains was an adventure and I enjoyed it even though the weather was terrible! It even rained a little while we were up there! Up on the top of the mountain we were pretty much in the clouds and sometimes they were so thick you could barely see ten feet in front of you, but we had lunch in a nice little cafeteria and we had a warm cup of coffee and when we went out again it had cleared a little and there was even a small patch of blue sky! We saw mountain goats, lot of cows and an eagle. There were also some ponies at the top of the mountain in a small pen that, when I went to pet one of the ponies and accidently brushed the fence, I discovered was electrical. The saddest part was that when I touched the fence I was also touching the pony so the poor thing got shocked too. It wasn't very strong, but still the next time I went to pet the pony to appologize, it tried to bite me! Poor thing, I understand:( I had a good time with Michaela, who left the next day to go back to Itay, and we plan on meeting up when I get to Rome. It was a great day of Spanish practice because the train ride was almost three hours total and she doesn't speak english nor I Italian (very well) so we had to speak in Spanish. We talked about anything from love life to life goals and religion! It was funny having conversations that were way out of our vocabulary range. We had to get creative with the words we know to make up for all the ones we don't. There was a group of German tourists on the train up and they had a guide with them who spoke German, Castillano(Español), and English! I saw a trail along the other side of the stream while we were going up the mountain in the train and I asked him if it was possible to walk up the mountain. He said it was, but that it took like four hours! I really want to go back and hike it. Maybe I will later, and I'll make sure the weather is good that day I do!
This weekend is a big holiday for Barcelona. Every city in Spain has a day to honor their patron and this weekend is Barcelona's. The fiesta is called La Mercé and there is usually parade sort of things and fireworks and other fun stuff, but it has been raining here so that put a damper on some of the weekends plans, but there were still fireworks last night - in the rain and everything! They were down on the beach, but I watched them from our balcony. Tonight I am going to a free concert - just a little one, but my teacher is the lead singer in one of the bands so I have to go. Tomorrow night I am going to another concert that is free, but should actually be pretty good. It is three Spanish groups - mostly punk rock, sort of reminiscent of yellowcard or relient k. My host sisters want to go to that too, so we will all go together, it should be fun:)
Amor from Spain, Mikahla
