Mikahla's Adventures Abroad
It is about noon here(3AM for all you back in California!) and I just woke up. I got home last night around 6AM and didn't get to sleep until aroun 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning! It was the last night for a bunch of the students so we all went out on the town as a sort of going away bash. It was way fun! We all went down to the Port Olympico - which is over by the two big towers in this picture, down by the coast. Most of the clubs don't open until midnight so first we just all hung out at a sidewalk bar and talked. It was awesome to just sit and listen the conversations going on all around me in a plethora of different languages! I talked in Spanish though many were speaking English - not many of them speak it really well, but it is spoken at least a little by all so it is often the default language. Everyone ordered drinks - except me of course - they all think it is really cute that I bring my nalgene water bottle with me everywhere! Around midnight we hit the clubs. You go down a fairly small staircase into a strange sort of big pit and there in the wall under all the bars on the street above is a line of different clubs. They are all open and free to enter. They all play different kinds of music - hip hop, rap, techno, salsa - and you can just hop from club to club. It was crazy! There were so many people there! I went with a group of girls and we just danced and danced! In the end it was just me and Marina left dancing, but it was great. Neither of us was interested in drinking or dancing with guys, we just danced by ourselves in a corner around our purses and if any guys even got close we just gave them back off looks and signaled them to get lost! I love how safe I feel in Barcelona. I am still careful always, but at the clubs, on the metro at 5AM, or walking home at 6AM, it was all good. I had a great night and it didn't cost me a thing! I am totally exhausted, but so glad I went(I wasn't going to in the begining because I didn't think the clubing scene was for me). I woke up this morning(or I guess this afternoon) with sore feet, aching muscles, and a bunch of great memories!
