Great Ocean Road - Anniversary weekend Thursday 18th September - Monday 22nd September Thursday 18th
CORINNES BIRTHDAY - After we finished work we got ready and headed of for dinner (tea). We ate at a Nepalese restaurant called Gurka's on Chapel street near to were we are living and the food was great although we gave the curried lamb a miss and washed everything down with a nice bottle of red wine. Some of the tables are laid out so that you sit on cushions in the floor (which is where we sat). Afterwards Wolfie took a drunk giggling Corinne home to open here presents and cards from home.
Friday 19th
We woke early and excited and packed before heading of to pick up the car which seemed to take AGE'S (it was a little Nissan tilda). Was back at the flat we packed and headed off for Torquay which would be our first nights stop over. We drove over the immense west gate bridge and down towards Geelong, passing parrots and pelicans flying about doing what every parrots and pelicans seem to do. We arrived in Torquay a little before dark and got down to some shopping in the many enormous surf shops there Wolfie got some flip flops and ditched the smelly ones. We found ourselves at the Tropicana motor inn and booked in for the night, Corinne checked the room for spiders finding a rather large common house spider and gassed it to death with the insect spray in the room. Waiting for the room to air out we went out for some pizza in town and watched a movie back at the room.
Saturday 20th
We woke early and packed the remaining cold pizza for lunch that day, had some breakfast and went off to finish our shopping from the night before. It was a little bit more successful than the night before we got some real bargains in the reef, ripcurl and roxy shops. We then had a look around the surf museum and hall of fame which was pretty cool before heading south. Our first stop was the split point light house which was used in 'round the twist' all those years ago. We had a cream tea in the café but the cream was naff wasn't proper stuff but the scone was nice. During the drive we saw loads of cockatoos, rosella and galahs which are types of parrots.
In the afternoon we arrived at Kennett River and found some wild koala's the pick of the bunch being a mum and joey just on the side of the road and a no higher in the tree than about 8ft was awesome they were both awake and eating some gum leaves. After some more koala spotting we checked in at the big4 campsite into a lodge and made some fishcake and chips.
Sunday 21st
After some breakfast we fed the king parrots in the park that come down from the mountains to the bird feeder before driving to Lorne a seaside town on the great ocean road. It was soooooo sunny and nice considering that it was spring, Corinne bought some more clothes we got some lunch and a nice ice cream. Whilst driving we spotted an echidna which is related to the platypus and being a mammal that lays eggs! Late in the afternoon we arrived at the 12 apostles the famous landmark which was pretty cool lots of Asian tourists doing the V sign taking pics. We checked into our semi posh hotel room for the night which included a hot tub.
Monday 22nd (our first anniversary) Not the best weather but we found a nice café for break, paid for by the lovely people that sent us some spends in the anniversary cards you know who you are thanks very very much. We then had a drive around the few small towns in the area port fairy and what not. We found a lolly shop (sweet shop) and got some haribo cola bottles and liquorices. Despite the weather we managed to squeeze in a mini safari in a nearby national park which is a sunken volcano full of roo's, wallabies and emu's. We then made our way back to Melbourne and spent some more of our anniversary monies on a Thai meal at a local restaurant
