One word to sum up the first couple of days......TIRED!!!! After 2 long haul flights & a 2 hour stop over in Mumbai we had finally arrived in Bangkok. We caught the express train & the Metro system to our hotel, which thankfully was right outside the Metro station. A swimming pool, 2 bars and a restaurant....not bad for 15 pounds. We got ourselves a meal and headed straight to bed to catch up on some much needed sleep.
14/01/2011 - We figured we would have a lie-in (seeing as there won't be many soon) & got up at 9am. After breakfast (all you can eat buffet) we were greeted outside by a mid thirtie's temperature and set off for a stroll around Lumphini Park to catch some rays (I have a camera strap mark around my neck to prove it!!) We managed to do our best David Attenborough impressions and hunted out some of the park's local wildlife (or perhaps it was hunting us!!) After getting rather excited by seeing a lizard no bigger than the palm of my hand, a rustling in the bushes soon grabbed our attention, as Mr. Komodo Dragon thingy decided he would go for a swim.....all 5 foot of him!!
We then headed back towards the direction of our hotel and visited a temple (the name escapes me) that was home to the world's largest Golden Buddha and had a rather hectic stroll around Chinatown's many, many stalls; whilst also playing our own human version of Frogger with the mental traffic.
At 6pm that evening we met the rest of our tour group (15 of us in total) and I was very pleased to see that 8 of them were Scandinavian girls, & even better, 4 of those 8, were nurses!!! We were also pleased to see a Scottish couple in our group, who we have quickly adopted as our drinking partners!! We all went for a meal that evening to get to know each other better, before they headed back to the hotel, whilst me, Joel & the Scots continued the drinking :-)
