15/01/2011 - We had an earlier start today as we head a long day of driving ahead of us. After a quick breakfast, we left the hotel at 7am to drive to Poipet where we would be crossing the Thai border into Cambodia. Stopping off for lunch at the border and perusing a market that puts Charlotte Street to shame, we finally crossed over into Cambodia so that we could.........drive some more! YAY!!
After arriving at our hotel at 4pm, we had a brief rest before leaving at 5:30pm for dinner. One very hairraising and bumpy Tuk-Tuk ride later, we arrived at an NGO village for our dinner. It was in a shack in the middle of nowhere, where we had our traditional dinner sat on cushions and using chopsticks. Needless to say I was going to end the dinner more hungry than I started. After eating roughly 8 bits of food in the space of 15 minutes with the chopsticks, I called upon man's new best friend....the Fork!! Long has the fork been overlooked as an eessntial part of life, but no more my friends, trust me & always carry one with you! ;-) After eventually finishing my dinner, thechildren of the village came to sit with us so that they could practice their English & we could help to teach them, although all I acheived with the boys sat with me, was teaching them how to play the drums, using the once useless chopsticks, on a glass, a tin can and a plastic plate. If 10 years down the line this is the future of music, just remember where you heard it first. Another bumpy Tuk-Tuk ride later, we were back at our hotel settling down with a beer & Chelsea v Blackburn on the television, ready for our early start tomorrow to visit Angkor Wat temples. Speaking of which I'd best get some kip, have to be up in 5 hours :-/
