Another day, another birthday wish to be sent, this time to my wonderful mum! After painfully saying goodbye to our hostel, we checked into new, never-gonna-be-as-good one & then headed to the Singapore Zoo to look at their array of animals on offer. We decided to walk around & follow the keepers as they did feeding times with the different animals. In the distance we could hear the rumbling of our good old friend thunder, who appeared to be stalking us ever since we left Koh Phangan. The feeding sessions started off fairly busy & the keeper would tell us about each animal. Gradually, as the storm grew closer, the crowds became less & less & by the end it was just me, Joel & the keeper, who looked a little weirded out that it was only us two left following her around the zoo. By the time the marine show started to bring an end to the days proceedings, the rain was pouring down & the storm was in full flow. Thankfully, this show was under cover & we stayed dry. We hung around after the show for the rain to ease, but it didn't so we put on our 'Forrest Gump' shoes & dashed for the exit. We stayed there to grab some dinner as we had also bought tickets to the Night Safari next door. Thankfully the rain had eased by the time it came to visit there. I was looking forward to taking more photos that evening, but because they were all nocturnal animals, we weren't allowed to use the flash on our cameras, thus rendering most photos pointless. A tram ride took us through parts of the safari inaccessible by foot & the rest of the zoo was various walking trails named after the creatures that you were likely to see on said trail. There were also a couple of walkthrough enclosures that had free-roaming Flying Squirrels & some bats. After a few close brushes with the bats, we emerged unscathed & not covered in guano!! We ended our visit with a 'Creatures of the Night' show, in which keepers introduced us to various animals from the safari, including a huge Boa Constrictor, that unbeknownst to some poor woman, had been stored right underneath her seat for the entire show. That bought an end to our Dr. Doolittle day & we headed back to our hostel.
