Kel: Hello strangers. We've been crap at updating ... sorry. So we left the beautiful glacier land and had the most stunning drive of all down the west coast. It went past the Haast Pass and the McKerrow mountain range (of course). M was driving and I wanted him to stop ALL the time so I could take pics .. so it wasn't exactly beautiful inside the van if you know what I mean but never mind. We got there all the same, avec pics! Wanaka is a beautiful town, situated on an even more gorgeous lake. We settled in and went to the offie and met a lovely man. Matthew told him all about whisky (and bought a bottle of Tomatin!) while he told us all about central otago wines and gave us a few tips for the hols. So we made our way home with a bottle of Vin Gris (like pinot gris but with red grapes and skins removed... see we're learning), some smoked salmon we bought from a farm on the way down and salad. See life in the wee van aint that bad : )
The next day was a day of firsts for me. We met another lovely man called Chris and he took us out in his boat fly fishing. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. Very sunny, a bit cold a times and totally clear blue skies and a very calm lake. I thought that was great until he told us that the fish could see everything and weren't coming out to play. I think we had some Wallace luck with us though cause by the end of the day Matthew caught a brown trout (3 lbs) and I got a salmon (2 lbs) Ok it was small but bloody hell it fought. It was my work out for the day. So we killed them and had them on the barbie with the rest of our vin gris. Then hot tub in the campsite to finish. Nice one.
