Kel: Our aim was to drive north as far as possible. We had a lovely drive through the tongariro national park (where Mt Doom/Mordor is in Lord of the Rings). We went to the tourist information place to learn all about a 1 day hike crossing Tongariro but M wasn't convinced. A massive hike and our knees (well mine) were still dodgy. I was full of we can do it enthusiasm, but the reluctant consensus was a no. We carried on north, stopped for a left over lunch at Lake Taupo (basically anything left over, think honey pieces, beetroot sandwiches...) and carried on back up to Rotarua (fartopolis). We did manage to stop off at a prawn farm on the way up and again pissed off our camper friends cooking prawns in garlic for dinner... yum.
