Kel: The next day we re routed our trip south to Rotarua, otherwise known as fartopolis, home of many thermal springs. We stopped off on the way for 'a wee something', Matthew's daily term which he starts talking about around 30 mins after he's had breakfast.
Bakeries - bakeries in NZ are absolutely awesome (just like Scotland ;> ) Not only do they do great sausage rolls, but they put other stuff in them like potato or cheese and stuff, they do great pies and the cakes are to die for, especially slices. Couple that with good proper coffee, and you get a daily addiction known as 'a wee something'. I'm starting to get worried about bridesmaid dresses but I'm sure South America will sort us out - eek.
Anyway, at Rotarua we enjoyed a walkabout and an afternoon lounging in alkaline (good for the skin) and acidic (good for the muscles) pools. They were outdoor and looked out onto the lake which really was stunning. No wildlife there because there is little oxygen in the water = no fish = no birds. Every day is a school day.
After that we headed out to the lakes (blue and green) and stayed at one of Matthew's favourite campsites to date. Set on the lake itself it was beautiful. We went out for an hour walk around the lake and then settled down to some good old beans on toast with a side of canned beetroot.. a perfect way to end our trip to fartopolis.
