Day 42:
It has been an exhausting day and really not done much. We ended last night with going to the 2nd best Fish and Chip place in Australia - awarded for 2017 and amazingly only 5 kms from our van park. Was very tasty although the chips were not that great. I had fisherman's basket and the boy had a fish taco both really good. Small place with minimal seating and so busy for a Wednesday evening but we have done it. Found out our favourite place for F & C near our place also won award for NSW for 2017 and their chips are so much better.
Today started with another visit, this time to Kim's mums place here in Albany. Lovely mum for such a lovely daughter, can see where you get your delightful personality from Kim. We then ended up going into Albany city and doing a wander of the streets prior to our lunch. Found a woodwork shop in the main street with such stuff in it could have spent a fortune if allowed or needed, obviously not cause came out empty handed. Lunch was at a great little place called Gourmandise Co, quite quirky but we both enjoyed our meals, me a plate of salmon rillette and his a tart with fennel and things, all very prettily displayed on platters with nasturtiums and edible flowers. Expensive but just what we love and needed after much eating too much for days.
Then onto the National Anzac Museum where we spent 3 hours exploring. Rather emotional but beautifully put together and wonderful very hands on technology. The sounds of marching soldiers going off to war follow you throughout the building, quite hair raising. We were given a card with a soldier's name and photo and once inside you could place this on various boxes and the info about that soldier or sailor came up and you could follow his progress or not thru the war. I was given a private and Wally a captain but I swapped cause I liked his face better, the captain not my Wally although I like that too. So, my guy was fairly important, made it thru the war and died in 1953 of cancer. Wally's was sent home early in the war cause his mental state was not great and ended up drowning 2 weeks after the end of the war, by his own hand by the sounds of it. Anyway, this building is situated on the hill overlooking the harbour where all the ships sailed from. Huge picture windows showing the harbour as you can watch a shallow pool with the names of the soldiers who left thru the port and just some quiet places for contemplation. We explored the battlements that were built in 1893 and saw how they were going to protect their gorgeous harbour. Beautiful spot and very well done.
We went down to the edge of the point this arvo following a sign for Oyster House, his stomach was guiding him. Found not an oyster but did find a Squid Shack where we enjoyed an afternoon snack of some squid - also had a fire on showing how cold it is here. Now on the road to Emu Point where we are staying there are signs that tell you to watch out for rats and dinosaurs on the road. These translate to bandicoots (better sign needed guys) and turtle hatchlings that cross the road between Aug and Dec. Apparently, they are the size of a 10 cent piece, who the heck is going to see them cross the road with us going at 60kms let alone at 5kms and hour. Did not see any squishies so hopefully everyone else is avoiding them.
Again, The Fonz is full, Gina is full of food and off to the bush we go again tomorrow to Mt Trio Bush Camp (about 200kms I think). Not too far from here but lots of walking and exploring to happen apparently.
Love and hugs. xxx

Kim Mum really enjoyed your visit and is fascinated with this dairy farm thats automated. Thanks so much for popping in ans spending some time with her. Xx
Kim My favourite church. My relatives all got married here and christened as well. Sunday school my Mum and Dad dropped us off and came back after to pick us up. For my Dads funeral no seats left so people stood outside. On the other side of Oyster Harbour are the fish traps that the Aborigines used before white man. Made ofvrocks placed in half circles and used the tides. Big shady trees for the store and you can just image them resting, children playing and have time together waiting. Really poor signage for such a historic place. Xxx
Margaret Sounds and looks like you are both having a wonderful time. Loving the food commentary....I know where there is some good sour cherry icecream Wally!!!! Love to both of you. Peter and Margaret xx
