OK so some of you will not believe this, because I struggle to believe I actually did this myself. But my alarm was set for 7am and after a bike ride, I was at the St Kilda Sea Baths at 7.25am for a swim.
Yes 7.25 in the morning!!! The MSAC wasn't open till 8am and we were planning leaving on our road trip at 9am so I wouldn't have had much time, instead I went to the Sea Baths since it opened earlier. I certainly wont be going back there though, I hated the salt water pool and my skin didn't like it either. Anyways I did 64 lengths today but it was a 25metre pool so actually the same distance as the last day.
I was showered and back to the flat in plenty time as Kat and Ciara were still getting ready. The three of us then headed to Ballarat, we had taken our night bags with us as we had planned to hopefully stay there for the night. It didn't take us long at all to get there, a few hours at the most.
We headed for the Sovereign Hill outdoor museum, which tells the story of Ballarat's first, goldrush decade following the discovery of gold in Victoria in 1851. The museum was on a former gold mining site and it was so interesting. It was such a fun day out. We panned for gold and went down into the mines for tours. I managed to find tiny specs of gold but they were too small to even keep. The museum was in the form of the village back in 1851 and you could go into the shops and buy things. There were actors and actresses dressed up and walking around the village, which made it so interesting. They acted like the people would have back in that time.
We stayed the whole afternoon and went to the gold museum on our way out. It was full of information that you had to read etc but seeing the big nuggets of gold were interesting.
Then by this time we were hungry and ready for a seat, we decided to try and find a hostel or accommodation for the night. This proved much harder than we had thought. All the hostels were closed and the town itself looked very quiet. In the end we found somewhere to have tea and just decided to head back to Melbourne as even the Irish pub was closed. It was like a ghost town. I had Parma for the first time since being in Australia, it's a popular dish here that's meat covered in bacon and cheese. Not the healthiest but it was pretty yummy.
We had planned to go out when we got back to Melbourne, but this plan didn't really materialise. It was a Saturday night, but Katrina and I were happy to sit in with a bottle of wine and watch Total Wipe Out on TV, we found it hilariously funny and especially when their was a Scottish guy on it. I was shattered and really couldn't be bothered going out, so I was glad Kat felt the same. Ciara had done all the driving today so she went for a nap when we got home that turned out she managed to sleep right through to the morning.
I fair enjoyed my road trip to Ballarat and my quiet Saturday night in with Miss Ingram xxx
