Ok so this morning didn't start very well at all. I woke at 6.30pm and was full of the cold. So went back to sleep until Kat came home from work. This is where the problem started.. I woke at 9.30am from the deepest sleep and Kat wasn't in the bed next to me. I couldn't understand it as she said she would be home at 8.30am!! Hmm I went through to the living room and heard her talking, so I presumed she was in Ciaras room talking to her. BUT nope she wasn't, I picked up my phone which was on charge and silent, which had 10 odd missed calls from Kat and heaps of messages saying she was locked out the flat. By the time I checked my phone and opened the door she had gone.
I felt awful, I snipped the door thinking I was being safe when I got home last night. I didn't think anything about it. I texted and tried to phone her but her phone battery had died.
I was due to skype home this morning because Mum had a family meal with the whole Brodie Clan along with Auntie Kate, Uncle Bruce and Andrew. I felt so bad about Kat, that skyping was the last thing I fancied doing.
Anyways I got to see and speak to everyone that was there except Bobby and Kim. Adam had just played 8mins for the Locos, which I found hilarious, as he hadn't trained or done any exercise in 6 months haha. He said it was the longest 8minutes ever! Hehe. It was so good to see everyone.
Then Kat came back to the flat at 10.30am, after she went and had breakfast at a local cafe. I apologised heaps, she really should have killed me, I don't know why she didn't lol. She skyped with me to home for a while then she went straight to bed. I owe Kat big style!! Whoops!
I then headed out for the day, as it was really hot. My plan was to go swimming and do some exercise but as I was full of the cold this morning, I decided it wasn't the best idea. I headed to Albert Park for a walk. Its a big park with a lake in the middle and it's only a 10minute walk from Kats. It was gorgeous and so peaceful.
I visited the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre that hosted the 2006 Commonwealth Games. It was a fantastic building, with 2 50metre pools, one was indoor and the other outside. 10 squash courts, 10 basketball courts, 18 - 33 table tennis tables, 12 - 18 badminton courts, 3 volley ball courts, wave pool, diving boards, water slides, fitness centre. It had everything so I just had a right nosey and wondered around the whole building for a good hour :) I also found out the opening times of the public sessions, as I was keen to start swimming and do some exercise while I was in Melbourne.
I had lunch at a cafe on the lake side which was beautiful looking over the lake which was full of black swans. Then Ciara phoned to say she had lost her flat keys, so I walked back to let her in. By this time the heat was ridiculous, I was roasty toasty and completely exhausted since I didn't sleep well at all last night.
One of Kats friends was holding a party for hogmany, as his apartment was in South Melbourne in a high rise looking straight over to Federation Square. It was an amazing apartment with a spectacular view that was perfect for the fireworks. As Kat was working night shift, I went with Ciara to the party. We left the flat about 4.30pm and took our things to get ready there.
It was Johns apartment and he was having a BBQ, so we went to the supermarket to meet him and get all the food first. I hadn't met anyone except Ciara before tonight, so it was a bit daunting.
Sarah that I met in Africa, was also out in Melbourne tonight and had invited me to join her and a group of Swiss but I had no idea how to meet them, so the flat party was the safest option.
It was a great night, with lots of food and a crazy amount of drink. At 9pm we watched the Sydney kids fireworks on tv and then at 9.30pm the Melbourne kids fireworks started. They were being set off from the MCG, Melbourne Cricket Ground, which was further away so we didn't get the best view of them but that didn't matter since we were in perfect location for the midnight display.
There must of been 25-30 people at the party, and everyone was lovely. 3 girls from Glasgow, a few australians, 4 English then the rest were all Irish. They were all great and I managed to news away to everyone. We counted down with the TV to midnight and then BANG! The display was amazing and went on for 15/20minutes. The fireworks were all being let off from the tops of all the buildings, it really was spectacular.
After the display finished, Kat had given us sparklers which we lit out on the balcony before then all singing Auld Lang Syne. We tried to phone Kat to wish her a happy new year with no luck at that stage! Auld Lang Syne was brilliant though.
I then tried phoning home, but Bobby was the only one that answered. I got through to Jen too which was really fine. Then finally managed to speak to Mum and Dad.
At 12.30 most of the people at the party all headed to an Irish bar, and only a few of us stayed at the apartment. In the end there was only 9 of us left, so it was really nice. We carried on drinking and watched the Man u game, which ended badly :(
Ciara was staying at the apartment to help tidy up in the morning, but I really wanted back to Kats so I could get a good sleep. I shared a taxi with a Sarah and David that were also heading to St Kilda at about 3ish. My throat was in agony, and I felt totally sobar. I popped the paracetamol when I got back, and went to bed with a cup o tea :)
Fair enjoyed my single malt whisky and appletisers tonight. I could drink this all the time if whisky wasn't so expensive!!!
Let's make 2012 one to remember people! Life is far too short. xxx
