We set off early trying to beat the heat. First stop Old Tucson Studios, $20ea entry. It's been used to shoot movies, mostly westerns since the 50's. We had a good look around, did a tour with an old guy dressed as a cowboy who at one time was in few movies there and watched a shoot out. The little house on the prairie (yuk) and the High Chaparral was also filmed there. Many of the sets from that are still there.
From there we went to the Sonora desert museum, really more of a garden/zoo than a museum with a hummingbird enclosure, small aquarium, butterfly area, an open aviary and some wild cats which were all asleep I think lol for $16.50 ea entry with an ex military discount it was good value.
It was starting to get seriously hot so from there it was back to our hotel for lunch and to cool down in the ac.
After lunch we went and did a bit of shopping for some clothes. The car temp gauge was reading 50C at 3.30pm. So an air conditioned shopping centre seemed like a wise choice lol
Back to the hotel, shower & change and we headed downstairs to the Monday night mixer. Free wine, beer and some pretty good Mexican food.
Tomorrow we are going to try and get into the PIMA boneyard tour and then we head for San Diego and MACNA begins!
