After breakfast and packing up it was time for farewells and we were on the road again.

Setting the GPS to avoid highways the three hours south to Front Royal became five plus.

We drove under sunny blue skies through small towns some of which were Amish, through wooded areas with some trees starting to turn, beside rivers and past small agricultural holdings, mostly corn, pumpkins for seasonal decorations and apples. A lot of homes are decorated for Autumn, pumpkins and corn husk scarecrows are as popular as ever. The odd Halloween enthusiast had decorations out for that too. Even in these out of the way towns there was political support shown with signs on front lawns. Most that we saw were for Trump with just one for Hillary and another for the Libertarian Party.

We stopped at a farmers market and bought a bucket of Nittnay apples to take for Larry and Veronica it's the first time we e found them. They're good, not unlike our usual honey crisps. We also bought a large blackberry pie to contribute to the DuPont family pantry.
We spotted a ground hog by the roadside but he'd gone under cover by the time we returned to get a pic. Another further along was so quick only Pete saw it.

We went briefly into Maryland before crossing into our destination state, Virginia.

Many of the towns had houses dating back to the 1700's and we passed a number of historic civil war sites like Stonewall Jacksons house, his final bivouac etc

We got to Front Royal in the late afternoon, checked in to our hotel and caught up on a few things on line. Corn on the cob for dinner using Tal's silk removal technique to great effect. A couple of downloaded shows and it was time for sleep.
