We spent the morning paying some bills and putting in an order with premier. We booked two nights back at the same hotel in LA as we stayed at when we arrived this time and advised them we were getting the order sent to them.
It's another nice day, blue skies and warm.
Initially we were on Route 66 but for the most part we were on back roads through Ok and into Tx. As soon as we crossed the state line the speed limit shot up from 65 to 75mph. Good old Texas lol
As you'd expect Texas has lots of oil, gas and fracking going on; less expected was mile after mile of wind farms.
We bypassed Amarillo initially, heading instead to Palo Duro canyon. It was a smallish state park much like a small version of many other canyons, soaring multi-hued cliffs in shades of red and white. We stopped at a picnic table for lunch but between the dry heat and flies it wasn't a long stop. For similar reasons we settled for a drive through without stopping other than at a couple of viewpoints. It was just too hot for a hike to appeal.
It was a bit less than an hour from the canyon to our hotel which I had booked yesterday. First the GPS sent us in the wrong direction to a residential address. When we finally got there they didn't have my booking and no amount of showing them the email with confirmation number made them want to assist me. It was a case of tough luck ring Wyndham. IMO it was their place to make any necessary calls but after the stupid cow on the front desk got done yelling at me (literally!) I gave in and rang Wyndham who sorted it. There will be a review going up about this place, our room once we got it was good if you overlook the fact the bins still had rubbish in them from the previous guest.
We settled in and cooled off literally and figuratively before getting in touch with Chris. We settled on a spot for dinner and drove the 15 mins to meet up. Turned out to be a very good burger spot with Petes fave, cookies and cream shakes to finish. We chatted for hours until they looked like they were wanting to close up, it was a fun night.
Back to our hotel I put on a slow cooker meal for tomorrow night, watched a show and we were asleep by about midnight.
