After breakfast at the hotel we walked to the War Remnants Museum. There were various displays on the Vietnam War including graphic pictures of victims of mines and deformed people attributed to agent orange use in the war. Outside there were planes, helicopters, tanks and various other weaponry. As with most places in Vietnam, the commentary was high on propaganda.
We walked on to a nearby shopping centre for lunch in the food court before walking back to the Reunification Palace. We got there a bit early so sat in the park across the street until the ticket office opened. We bought the ticket and also a ticket for the electric car which takes you around the outer grounds of the palace before dropping you off at the entrance to the palace.
After the car trip around the palace we managed to latch onto an Englis language guided tour around the palace. Wandered around the meeting rooms, recreational rooms and living quarters before going down into the war bunker with the kitchen and communication rooms. Almost everything inside is supposedly as it was the day the North Vietnamese overran the palace at the end of the Vietnam War.
We had a cold drink at a cafe opposite the Notre Dame Cathedral while we waited for it to open so we could take a look inside. The cathedral opened and we had a quick look around before walking back to the hotel hoping to go up to the Saigon Skydeck in the building near the hotel. As we walked down to the hotel a thunderstorm rolled in which meant the view from the Skydeck would be minimal so we stayed at the hotel and had our free welcom drink before returning to our room to watch the storm.
After the storm passed we went out for dinner. We had seen the restaurant we were looking for the first night while walking to the War Remnants Museum, Quan an Ngon, so decided to eat there. The food was ok but the staff were hopeless. It was like a bunch of schoolkids mucking which was a complete contrast to Nha Hang Ngon.
We decided to get some ice-cream on the way back to the hotel but couldn't find the shop we saw earlier in the day. We wandered through some seedy parts of the city and a small market but returned to the hotel without any ice-cream.
Back at the hotel we packed ready for our flight up to Danang the following morning on our way to Hoi An.
