We slept in a little and then, after breakfast, took a taxi out to the Jade Emperor Pagoda after having some trouble getting the taxi driver and concierge from the hotel to understand where we were wanting to go. On arrival at the pagoda we were unsure how much to pay as the meter said ony 650 Dong. We knew some zeroes needed to be added but not sure how many. After some charades and attempts to cross the language divide we finally understood that the cost was 65,000 Dong. We paid and went to check out the pagoda.
There were no tourists here when we arrived so we wandered around taking photos and observing what was going on inside the temple. When we walked back out into the grounds the first of the tourist buses arrived. We had a look around the gardens with the tortoise pool and then decided to walk back to the hotel with a stop for a cool drink about halfway back.
Back at the hotel we dropped off our bags and decided to go and get some lunch before our day trip to the Cu Chi tunnels in the afternoon. The first place we tried was closed due to a power outage so we went to Pho 24 and took a seat. No sooner had we done this than the power went out there too so we were fast running out of time before we had to be back at the hotel for our pick up for the trip to Cu Chi. We decided to eat a few Kit Kats and drink a can of Coke each in our hotel room for lunch before heading down to the foyer to meet our guide for our trip to the tunnels.
We were picked up around 1pm and, after picking another couple up from Chinatown, were wee on our way to Cu Chi.
