We woke up at 7.30am after a good sleep, had breakfast at the hotel and then headed down to the supermarket to buy some bits and pieces before continuing on the the People's Committee Building. We took some pictures of the building and the park in front of it before we were ambushed by a group of Malaysian tourists who wanted us to take their group photo in from of the People's Committee Building.
First we were handed a single camera which soon became three, then five so we were stuck there for a few minutes taking photos for them. The Vietnamese guide thanked us and one of the tourists thanked us but the rest didn't say a word.
With that done with we continued walking up to the Ho Chi Minh Museum which was closed. A nearby tourist policeman informed us that the Reunification Palace and War Remnants Museum both closed at 11am which meant we would not make it in time to see these places today. Little did we know that he forgot to tell us they reopened a few hours later!
We walked on to the Notre Dame Cathedral which was also closed. It opened for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening so it was going to be hard to get inside and take a look. While we were there there was a film crew in the park in the centre of the intersection filming what appeared to be a Vietnamese soap of some sort. Not sure how many times we wandered into shot.
Our next stop was the Central Post Office across the road from the cathedral. The post office looked more like an old train station but was a nice, cool spot to sit down for a few minutes after a long time in the heat and humidity outside. The walls of the post office we decorated with old maps of the city and surrounding area as well as the obligatory Ho Chi Minh portrait.
After our rest we walked back down to the hotel via the riverfront where we stopped for a rest to take in the cool breeze off the river. We then dropped off our bags at the hotel and went out for lunch at nearby Pho 24 for some noodle soup then went out to the other supermarket that concierge had informed us about yesterday. We stopped and had a drink at the food court then returned to the hotel for a rest.
For dinner we went to a nearby restaurant called Mogambo which was said to have decent burgers. The burgers were great but much more expensive than the previous night's dinner. The atmosphere in the restaurant was a little odd as we were the only people there other than a group of Vietnamese who seemed to know the owner who was lounging near the entrance. They chatted amongst themselves as the other staff sat and watched us eat.
After dinner we went back to the hotel as we had an early start the next morning for our day trip to the Mekong Delta.
