The Turtle God wasn't with los tres spoonadores that night in Tortuguero. We didn't see a single hatching giant leatherback or any hatchlings or nests. Not even ninja turtles or famous Italian artists. We did however see a toad, he was cool... Made our day! Who wouldn't wanna pay 20 bucks to see a toad? A big toad!
Devastated and eyes filled with despair from the miserable turtlenight we got up early next morning to find some red frogs. Guess what... We found them, several of them all wearing their tiny blue jeans. We spent ridiculously long time trying to capture the perfect shot. I'm now the proud owner of more than a hundred photos of red frogs with blue jeans. After the frog session we caught a boat out of Tortuguero and a shuttlebus to La Fortuna. The nature in Costa Rica is pretty damn amazing, and the four hour drive was full of intriguing scenery. So we took no photos of it.
We spent two nights in La Fortuna. Almost three days and yet we failed to see Volcano Arenal, Costa Ricas most active volcano. It was covered in clouds every single day. I suspect that they might have moved the volcano to a secret location, and to cover up the missing volcano they are constantly keeping the area clouded. Sneaky little Costa Ricans... I'm on to you!
Our second day in La Fortuna was a hectic one. We visited La Fortuna Waterfall were we all almost drowned. It was a beautiful sight for drowning spoons. Never drink and waterfall! Afterwards we went ziplining, six different ziplines above the cloud forest. The German spoon was dreadfully accepting the challenge, u see he is afraid of heights. A bit of a chicken that one... The ziplines were cool, no accidents, no sudden spoon deaths. The longest zipline was 912 meters, the fastest one supplied a monstrous 90 km/h. The other ones were fairly boring, tho hanging high up in the air is always funny.
The evening was spent at Baldi Hotsprings. That's 35 dollars we'll never get back! Lying in 45 degrees water is extremy unpleasant and shall not be repeated...
Atm we're in San Juan del Sur on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua and the spoons are back together! We've been here 3 or might be 4 days now. I dunno, we dunno, it's all pretty vague too us for some reason. The two temporary spoons are flying home in about three days time, and the two spoons will continue their epic adventure together at least for now. We might split up at another fork, but until then, there will be some serious catch-up spooning. After all, we've been separated for like a month and a half!!
