We had a smooth 2 hour bus journey to KL, as we were approaching the city we could see the Petronas Towers shining high above all the surrounding buildings. We successfully managed to navigate our way to a Hostel called The Haven, which suited us just fine! We dumped our bags and went out for a wander, we found the biggest shopping mall in SE Asia was right round the corner from us!! We had a look inside and there were 10 levels of shops, a cinema and a theme park! We decided we must have a peek at the theme park and were amazed to see a massive rollercoaster and other rides!! We didnt go on anything because of our strict budget we have imposed on ourselves...
Our hostel was lovely and very backpackery, it had a DVD room, so we spent the evening watching a film. The next day we decided to go to the Telecom tower (which is the 4th highest in the world!) and higher than the Petronas towers, we decided to walk there but it was so hot and humid we could hardly breath! We took a little walk up a mini forest which had loads of steps before we finally reached the bottom of the tower. I kept looking up at the tower and it was quite eery looking, like something off War of the Worlds! Anyway we got a lift up to the viewing platform and our ears popped on the way up! Getting out the lift we were treated to a wonderful panoramic view of the city. We could see all the rooftop swimming pools of the posh hotels, we could also sort of make out where our hostel was, and we could see one of the Petronas Towers! We stayed up there for a little while and took a few pics and then made our way down. We walked over to the Petronas towers, we enquired about tickets to go up them (you can go up as far as the sky bridge) but apparantly you have to get there at about 6am to queue for the tickets which are on a first come first served basis, as only a limited number are released a day. We decided the towers looked best from the outside anyway!! There was a park outside where we were able to get some more great pics. We then walked back to our hostel, as we were walking the clouds were getting darker and darker and it started lightning. It has rained every day we have been in SE Asia so far, we have been looking to buy raincoats but can't find them anywhere!!!! We decided to buy an umbrella to be on the safe side and much to Kams embarrasment it had a huge Winnie the Pooh on it!!! We spent the evening watching more DVDs.
On our last day we walked over to China Town which ended up like a huge street market, full of fake everythings - watches, clothes, dvds etc. Was fun to look at though, everyone was trying to make us buy their stuff (a bit like India!) As it was really sunny and hot we thought we would get out of the hecticness of China Town and go to KL boat lake, we had to get a taxi there. As we got out the clouds started to look a bit grey and as we tried to find the lake on foot it started spitting in rain, Winnie the Pooh came out (much to Kams disgust) and we went and found a covered seating area. Just as we got there it started bucketing down, we thought we would just wait for the 'shower' to pass over but it just got heavier and heavier, then it started thundering and lightning. We sat there for ages, when we realised it was probably going to go on for some time, we got a taxi back to the city. We found refuge in a noodle soup, and I had the best BBQ Pork noodle soup ever! It carried on raining for another hour or two. We decided that evening that we would go up the Telecom tower again, to get some good night time views of the city. We walked ther with an american bloke we had met at our hostel. The views weren't so great as everywhere was misty after all the rain, we did see a good sunset though. We headed back to the hostel via CHina Town which was even more hectic at night! We really enjoyed KL, our next stop is the Cameron Highlands!!!!
