Well our journey from KL was fine as usual, although the bus did turn up late and we left 45 mins behind schedule. The Journey up was really scenic with lush hills and lots of jungle. We got closer to the town Thana Rata and it started to rain and the clouds were getting closer and closer. When we finally arrived at our destination Ellie spotted the van for our hostel and we go a lift there. The driver was really friendly and was really entuasiastic about the room. Least to say we wern't but as we had got it at a bargain price we didn't complain. We dropped our bags and went out to hunt down some food. We found a restruant that served German sausages and mash so we got hypnotised and went in. The remainder of the evening the sausages seemed to repeat on me and all I done is burped sausage meat smell, so if you want a romantic night here don't eat Hungarian spicey sausage!!!!
Next day after a really damp night at the Twin pines we decided to explore the town and afte walking around for a while we ate some food. The town is really cute, a bit like lake district and switzerland combined. We also decided to try and see how much a tour would be and found them to be quite reasonable so we booked one up for that afternoon. The minibus picked us up from our hostel and took us to a selection of sights around. We visited the Cactus valley,Strawberry farm and had yummy fresh strawberry milkshake, the butterfly farm with creapy crawlys and a ent with massive butterflys and also dead massive butterflys. We then went to the BOH tea factory and had a short tour and sampled some tea. Then we went to the bea farm and also a market. Before we returned we stopped at a small town to look around. We went into a supermarket to try and get some raincoats, when we got out it was really foggy. We found this really fascinating because it was really sunny before!!! We returned and went to a cafe to have scones and cream with some coke, very traditional!!!!
Next day we decided to get up early so we could walk to the Robinson Falls. We started about 9am and found the walk quite refreshing. We got onto the trail and it was made up of jungle. We saw the beginning of the falls but after reaching a gate that was open and a path leading down hill we decided as we had no map not to risk it and turn back. The walk was pretty and the sounds of the jungle are very erie!!! We returned back to the town and had some lunch, followed by a session on the internet. In the evening we went to a restraunt and had a really yummy lasagne. Our bus is booked for 8am so we had a early night.
Cameron Highlands is really pretty with jungle and numerous waterfalls around. Unfortuantly as we both aren't the trekking type and have a really tight budget we found it a bit boring, but for any treking junkie who has a more flexible budget then we really recommend it.
We found also the weather to be very sudden in change. One minute it can be all sunny and hot, the next it can be really cold and wet. To be honest it rained everyday and thundered at night. We would also not recommend Twin Pines as it is very damp, not very secure and has no atmosphere.
All in all Cameron Highlands was a very boring experience, partly due to the weather and the lack of activities apart from trekking. Lovely place but not for us!!!!!
Next stop Penanag.................................
