Relieved, we left the damp hole that we stayed in in the Camreon Highlands. As usual the bus journey was smooth, on time and A/C! We noticed an elederly lady travelling on her own on the bus and we had noticed her walking around Cameron Highlands, when we got off the bus we started chatting to her and found out she was from Brighton, travelling on her own and 80 years old! She said she had been travelling on and off for the last 27 years and had been eveywhere from Myanmar to South America all solo!! She was a right character, we decided to share a taxi with her into Georgetown, and when the taxi driver started quoting us an over-inflated price she started saying 'Oh bulls*it' to him!! We liked this lady! She said she feels like she can get away with loads of things because of her age, bless her! Anyway we departed ways and found somewhere really nice to stay called Hutton Lodge, we got a lovely room for about 50p more than the sqalid dump we had left behind - its funny how the accomodation varies so much! We did a bit of wandering around Georgetown which felt a bit scruffy and there seemed to be alot of bored men loitering around, and we found a good Pork noodle soup to satisfy our hunger. In thwe evening we found an amazing food court called Red Dragon, it had a really nice atmosphere and was covered in little fairy lights, we pigged out on loads of Chicken satays and more pork noodles!!! The next day we got the bus to the bottom of Penang Hill and then boarded this strange train thing to go up the hill. It was really steep and the carriage was on a slant, there seemed to be a cable that hoisted us up, it was very slow and took about 45 mins to reach the top. When we got out we had a wonderful view over Georgetown, the really long bridge that runs from Butterworth over the sea and the surrounding countryside. There was a refreshing breeze, we had a little walk about and then found a bench and flopped there admiring the view below. We then chugged back down the hill again. We were going to see some more sights in Georgetown but by the time we got back down the hill it was getting late so we headed off to the good old Red Dragon and had the most amazing STEAK noodle soup with shredded pork and cabbage dumplings YUMBO. So that was our Penang adventure, not alot really!! But this entry is typed on the most annoying keyboard in the world. Other news from us, Kam has been growing a beard ever since we left the UK, it is like a small bush now, many noodles have been lost in that mass of bum fluff, he is refusing to trim it until we get to Oz, (another 2 months) I fear I may get lost in the beard myself in that time. Oh well next stop is Krabi Thailand!
