Tuesday 14th April – Day 21
Had such a nice chilled out day today, didn’t have to be up for anything in particular so I didn’t need to put my alarm on, got up at about 8.30am and me, Tasha, Larah and Rose went and had breakfast, - poached eggs on toast yum before having a look around Surfer’s Paradise town, it is such a lovely little seaside place and the weather was quite sunny today which made for a nice change! In the afternoon we just chilled as that evening we had our night out at the Dracula’s Cabaret which most of the group were going to. We got there at about 6.30pm and queued up to get inside, you had to ride a ghost train to get into the restaurant which me and Larah screamed the whole way through, especially the bit where the guy jumps out at you! All the Contiki people were sat right near the front of the stage, and once the show started one of the performers licked my face, I screamed and jumped a mile! The show was really good though and the food was lovely, a great evening. We went to a club called Melbas afterwards for a few drinks, and then headed back to the hotel at about 1.30am.
Wednesday 15th April – Day 22
Left Surfers Paradise today at 8.30am, left a guy called CJ behind as he was late getting up, and he had to get to the Currumbin wildlife park himself which was our first stop of the day, where we got to hold a koala which felt like a little sheep it was so cute! After our stop here we headed on our way to a place called Byron Bay which is a fantastic little town, really wish we could have had an overnight stop here. We saw the lighthouse and the most Easternly point of Australia, had some lovely fish and chips here some of the best that I have had in Australia. We then had a 2 hour journey to get to Arrawarra and our surf camp stop, we were staying 3 people in each shipping container, and it was so amusing as the bathroom didn’t have a proper door, just a curtain so you could hear what everyone was doing in there! Had dinner and an early night that night, as the surfers were up at 5.30am but there wasn’t much else to do here in the evening!
Thursday 16th April – Day 23
The girls got up at 5.30am today to do surfing, but I had a lay in until 8.00am, didn’t really do much after breakfast, just had to wait for all the surfing to be finished before we left the surf camp at 10.30am to head to our final overnight stop in Port Stephens. When we got to the hotel, me, Larah and Tasha had a lovely little apartment to ourselves, we had a cook your own BBQ dinner that night which was quite fun to see who could cook and who was pretty clueless! I had chicken, and I’m still here to tell the tale so least I didn’t kill myself! Had a couple of drinks in the bar before heading back to the room and watching Atonement on the telly.
Friday 17th April – Day 24
The Last Day!
Today we were headed back to Sydney and our last stop of the tour, we arrived at about 4pm and had our group photo at Mrs McQuerie’s point before we all went our separate ways and the hotels we would be staying in for the night. Larah and I got a taxi down town as she was staying in Wake Up and I in the YHA. That night we all met up in Kings Cross for a final night out together, and Dan and Youngy our tour guide and driver from the Northern Territory came too which was really nice to see them again. Wasn’t a particularly late or drunken night, just a nice night out to end a fantastic tour around Australia!
The weekend in between flying to New Zealand, I met up with Fiona from my last Bunac group, and some of us all met up to go to an AFL Aussie Rules football match which was good to see, we also went out to Darling Harbour for some drinks and the Imax to see Monsters and Aliens on the Sunday evening.
