Trailor on Tour
This morning we arrived at Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Village, which is just as the name describes - a thermal village. It is also a Maori cultural area and we headed for the 1115 concert as soon as we arrived. Not sure quite what I was expecting, but we were both pleasantly surprised when a Maori adonis walked onto the stage and proceded to perform the 'hake'. Needless to say the concert was a big hit, even when we had to stand up and do the Hokey Cokey in Maori - anything to see him shake his butt!!!
Next was the guided tour of the village - expectations were high that we may get the hunk to show us round - oh no, we had the campest Maori in NZ, just our luck, but he was great and really amusing. At the end of the tour we sat down to yet more corn on the cob, but this had been cooked in one of the thermal pools in the village. Not as nice as our Nic's corn it has to be said.
Back to the van and I stopped in a shop on the way to buy some bits - when I got back Nic was laughing - it turns out that we had actually been to the wrong place and were supposed to be going to the Arts and Crafts Institute next door to see the Pohutu Geyser close up - oh well!!
After lunch in the car park we drove to Waikite Valley Thermal Pool, which when we arrived turned out to have a campsite attached, so we parked up and went and lazed in the pools and in the sun, before having our good old tuna and corn dinner and going to be early. I was actually cold in bed during the night - must have been chilly. S xx
