We left Koh Lanta and said tearful farewells to the top blokes from the accomodation to catch a 4 hour speed boat ride to Ko Lipe. Its a very remote island and to disembark from the boat we had to jump off with our bags into the sea as it has no pier. Then it was time for a 3km trek, to the other side of the island which had been highly recommended to us, with our 25kg back packs, being guided by a Thai women who seemed as if she'd never been on the island before as she had no idea where she was going, but at least she had more of an idea than us!
After the gruelling hike in the sweltering heat we eventually got to the beach, and would have been quite happy just to sleep there, but luckily - or maybe unluckily! - there were some huts made out of wicker and to be honest we've seen garden chairs that looked like they were in a more stable condition! As for the security, you could have punched your way through the walls!
We dumped our stuff and were just in time to see the beautiful sunset that people have raved about. Unfortunately Chris's battery on his camera ran out so we couldnt get all the pics we wanted - yes we really are great with cameras!!
In the evening we went for a walk across the island via torch light, as the island has no electricity apart from in certain places where generators are used and even these only last from 8pm until 2am. We stumbled - literally! - across a little bar/resturant called Poos where we had a beautiful fish bbq, caught fresh from the sea that day - or so we were told!
Then we attempted to navigate our way back to the wicker furniture called our home for the evening where Gav fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow, while Chris lay awake petrified with torch in hand because of all the noises outside!
Not looking forward to the 3km hike back to the boat tomorrow but im sure we'll manage as its off to Malaysia! Woo hoo!
