Got up early in Ko Lipe and began our 3km trek back to the other beach to catch a long boat across to the ferry. Boarding the ferry posed a slight problem for Chris and he had to belly flop onto the deck while Gav gracefully strode aboard! An hour later we arrived at Pakbara where we caught a minibus to Hat Yai. Because of our cr*p scheduling we missed the last train that was going to Malaysia so had to grab a grubby, smelly bus to the Thailand / Malaysia border. Arriving at the border at 12 midnight with no clue of what to do or where to go, we were given a helping hand by a couple of German fraulines. We were all a bit wary as we had to walk across the border bridge surrounded by armed guards but we made it into Malaysia, only find that there were no buses, so we shared a taxi ride to Kuala Besut - the ferry point for the Perhenthian Islands. After a nights stay in a run down guest house we awoke at the crack of dawn (that was the German birds name!) and upon walking outside we got our first taste of rain for nearly a month. We boarded a tiny speed boat ready for a relaxing 30 minute journey across to the island - however, it was worst then then the bloody Nemisis at Alton Towers, with one huge wave after another sending us flying into the air and then crashing back down! It was the worst and roughest ride of our lives!Arrived on the island outside of our resort at 10am, smelling bad and in need of a shower, only to find that once again we didnt have any electricity until 7pm! We set off to explore the other side of the island through the rain forest, where along the way we stumbled across huge lizards. We then spent the rest of the day chilling on the beach enjoying the ocean and frolicking in the big, bad ass waves! We got up early again the next day to be greeted by a huge lizard outside our front door - as seen in the picture. Actually being on time for once we sat on the beach ready for our boat back to the main land, only to see the boat we had booked, pull up and then pull away, as it was already full with people, leaving us two fools stranded on shore! Slightly worried as we had booked a bus the other end, we somehow managed to acquire a lift on a public boat full of all the locals. As the boat docked 10 minutes late Gav had to sprint to the ticket office (it obviously wasnt going to be Chris doing the running). Fortunately for us the bus turned around and came back to pick us up. Phew!
Now its off Teman Negara, the worlds oldest rainforest - or so its promoted!
