We arrived in Bangkok at 18:00 Thai time without any visas hoping we wouldnt encounter any problems even though the travel agents and Thai Embassy advised us otherwise! We are so hardcore!
Got through without any troubles and headed off to our hotel via taxi. The hotel was right next to the red light district of Pat Pong but inside it wasnt too bad. As soon as you headed out the door you were confronted by a dirty, grubby, traffic ridden city full of bright pink taxis (gav loved em!), motorbikes and tuk tuks - for the less educated these are three wheeled motorbikes used as kamikazi taxis around this crammed city. Awesome fun to ride though!
Went out for a walk in the evening to Pat Pong, every step of the way being hassled by tuk tuk drivers and ping pong shows. In Pat Pong the whole of the street was a market filled with stalls selling fake stuff some of which looked pretty decent - just ask Gav he was impressed! We went to a few watering holes and taking a look around most of the places were full of old white western men, with grey hair, grey moustaches and 18 year old Thai birds hanging off their arms who blatantly couldnt understand a word the old pervs were saying!
The next day we got a map and headed off to the Grand Palace only to find we had misguided ourselves to a hotel of the same name and in fact the real Grand Palace was over the other side of the city! When getting there - after a long taxi drive! - we were told we couldnt get in with shorts so had to buy some hot new trousers from a local stall - as are sported by Gav in one of the photos. Not surprisingly we were mocked by everyone we walked by, be it a fellow tourist and even locals!! Once inside the grounds of the Palace we were amazed at how amazing it was. From here we headed off to the Wat Po - a giant, gold reclining Buddha - the size of which can be seen in the photos even next to Chris' fat head!
That night we went to watch some Thai boxing to see some blokes kick the absolute living daylights out of each other. Me and Gav offered to be the next bout but they saw what rock hard fellas we are and declined our offer. We then headed of to Kao Sham Road which is full of bars and pubs crammed with back packers and enjoyed a cracking nite out.
Went to Pat Pong and brought some cheap, fake Nike shox each, rip off DVDs and Gav treated himself to some bling bling watchs - the pick of which was a Kanye West stylee Jacobs & Co, "diamond" encrusted beaut!! Wandering around we saw an elephant cruising the streets and upon Gavs recomendation we headed down a back alley full of bars. It was only until we had settled down with a pint that we realised the place was full of very, very, very homosexual men and waiters and even the odd lady boy - as seen in a pick with Gav! Even now im pretty sure Gav knew what he was up to!! On the way back, quite merry by this time, we stumbled across a group of Thai lads playing football in a car park so we took it upon ourselves to show them the English way of playing. It took ten minutes of constant sweating before we realised we were poo so left them to it.
We then headed out of Bangkok ready for an 8 hour coach trip and what was supposed to be a quick hour and a half catamaran to the island of Koh Tao.................
