Left Malaysia to head for Singapore, and Gav still having to be consoled by Chris after having to part with 2 of his beloved pairs of shoes, the bus journey was going to be a long one for Chris! We arrived at the border at 14:00 hoping it may be a quick and easy crossing but once again it proved rather a pain, having to disembark and embark the bus twice with weighty backpacks and by now our almost as equally weighty hand luggage.
Now finally in the country we found the road systems worked ever so similar to those at home and the streets were almost litterless certainly not like England! We arrived at the main bus depot in Singapore at 15:30 having to decide where in the city we were to stay, and grabbed a taxi to our first choice which we soon realised was a very early opening red light district (excuse the pun!) unlike any we'd been to so far, and believe us we've experianced a few! Absolutely littered with prostitutes! Needless to say we had a quick flick through our book and decided on Little India, where we knew we'd feel right at home as of course it was just being in Bedford or Luton!!
The accomodation was ok but a little more costly than what we had become used too, it was over 3 pound each! We went for a wander to yet another market, where we were hoping to top up our bags a bit more but unfortunately we found the prices over our budget. Dam!
The next day we decided on a trek up to Raffles Hotel where we sampled a world famous Singapore Sling each and a big bowl full of monkey nuts. Needless to say the Slings went down very easily and straight to our heads, and we ended up starting a nut fight across the bar!! Apparently we're not allowed back again! Next we headed to the Raffles landing site where Chris managed to get mixed in with a group of Japanese school kids, easy mistake! The evenin we spent at Singapore Zoo on the Night Safari, where we managed to catch a glimpse of many types of animal, including Tigers, Lions, Cheetahs, Elephants where ironically Chris somehow managed to get mixed in with them big b*ggers aswell!
On reflection of our 5 weeks in Asia, Gav has come to the realisation that he has spent the money he made from the sale of his car on fakes, shoes a plenty, and load of general sh*t from the markets, but he's still smiling!!!
As for Chris, he has realised it really is quite tricky to distinguish a ladyboy from the real deal after all!!!
Oh well, off to Oz now with tinnies galore and shrimps on barbie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
