Arrived at a lovely casa, super friendly folks with a mad dog! Dumped our bags then explored the town and walked down to the point which juts right out into the bay. Had a moneda peso lunch which perhaps not surprisingly was the smallest meal we have ever been served much to the acute disappointment of the starving boys!
Cheeky sundowner at Club Cienfuegos before hailing a horse taxi cart back into town! That night we went for dinner, but much like all Cuban restaurants the food left a lot to be desired but was cheerfully washed down with a bottle of Cuba's finest bad sherry posing as red wine! All cracking fun tho!
Tim had his hair lopped off in the biggest hair salon ever in the morning before we sneaked into the town's poshest hotel La Union and used and abused their pool for the afternoon. Don't mind if we do, sir!
On our last day we caught a dodgy taxi (it only broke down twice and ran fine once he'd sucked the gas through into the engine) to Rancho Luna beach resort 15 kms away. Bit of a pikey local beach although nice enough, if you ignored the overweight Germans pole dancing and erotically grabbing their bulging fanny packs in the beach bar, but later on we walked round the headland to find an even more pikey tourist resort straight out of Hi-dee-hi with merengue lessons, fashion shows and lots of leathery old women wandering around in overly tight bikinis. Ew, ew, ew!
Quite happily monged on the beach supping mojitos until it was time to leave narrowly escaping the call to join in with the rumba lessons, only to start getting grief off one of the above mentioned leather ladies who appeared to be patrolling the perimeter of the hotel checking people were sporting the all important all-inclusive arm band. Complaints to managements ensued, security was called, and even after being assured that we were allowed in the hotel reception to wait for our taxi, she maintained a close vigil on us, only leaving briefly to grab a refill at the free bar! Mo Slater eat your heart out!
That evening, we had a fab meal at the casa and played poker into the early hours with Jack and Flick and pointed out the stains all over the walls and ceiling after the coffee pot exploded without warning whilst they were preparing our breakfast!
Next day we bid a fond farewell to our lovely hosts and hopped into another taxi to Trinidad.....and 2008!
