You can totally forget a lie in when there is a huge thunderstorm outside and the rain is absolutely belting it down and bouncing off the floor because Scott is running around the bedroom and jumping on the like a little kid, 'Ooo there's a thunderstorm, hehe! Ooo look at the rain! Ooo, oh! Omg look at those people driving in the rain! Aww Beth did you hear that rumble!?' ...'uh yeah I did because YOU woke me up.' Not best pleased being woken up! You can guarantee when there's a bit of action going on with the weather, whether it's thunderstorms, rain or even a decent sunset; Scott is mesmerised by it all, it's quite funny really! Just not at 5-6am in the morning.
That was it for me then I couldn't get back to sleep so just laid in bed catching up on the news, although I wish I hadn't. I swear every time I open sky news app a plane or a bus has crashed, it fills me with lots of confidence when we are travelling on these things a lot at the moment...!
We jumped on the scooter around 9am and went out to find some breakfast which was proven to be quite difficult, both a little ratty because of course we had been up early! after about 30 minutes of driving around trying find a little restaurant open and serving some cheap noodle soup we eventually spotted one, it was on the street we had driven up about 5-6 times!!
The soup was nice, Scott ended up having two bowls because they were only 50 pence each! Just as we had finished they brought their little fluffy dog out that was absolutely adorable, I swear Scott is trying to get rabies; he goes towards every dog here, I need a pair of reins for him to pull him back every time he goes towards one. He is getting better but still too overly find of the little creatures!
That's what I'm missing about home, not being able to go up to a dog and play with them and smooth them without worrying about the possibility of rabies!
After breakfast we went to the old city, Sukhothai historical park. It has lots of big temples and monuments of Buddhas! There is only really one that I want to see because it looked awesome in the lonely planet book!
It was a nice drive, just one main road connecting it from the new city where we are staying, it's quiet on the roads here and you can tell the old from the new city as the houses become wooden and the shops become wooden shacks as you get closer to the old city.
The park has four zones but the main temples are in central and northern zone. We went over to the northern one first where Wat Si Chum was, it's in the lonely planet book - a huge Buddha inside a stone room with no roof, it's pretty cool when you see it!
They're all pretty awesome even though they're ruins, to think how old they are and how long it must have taken to build these things! This history goes back to when this country was in it's peak, at the same time our country was going through the Black Plague. Crazy how roles reverse all the time amongst different countries!
The park is like a very quiet Angor Wat park, there aren't many people about there at all. Id say that we saw around 50 people over the period of two hours in the northern zone. In Angor Wat you seen 500+ people with in 20 minutes of entering the park!
After seeing some impressive monuments we called quits on the central zone because we were too right to pay to go in and see them and we were a little buddha'd and templed out. We could see quite a few of the the temples in the central zone from driving around the outside, so yeah we done it the cheap skate way and drove around the outside to see them!
We stopped for a drink in some little family restaurant, we played travel size frustration! Haha. I lost.
Two huge drinks for £2, I had a kiwi Italian soda which was delicious! Scott had a Oreo chocolate milk frappe which was also just as good! It's so lovely and cheap in the north fingers crossed it is in the south too!
So just after lunch time we took a drive back to town and went for a ride around some little villages and got a bit lost, partly because I shut my eyes for a little nap whilst we were driving so the gps was a little off signal when I opened my eyes again! We got back to the hotel eventually and just sat in the shade at the front watching the world go by, it was quite nice because it's 34 degrees today even after the thunderstorm this morning, the heat is so heavy and humid it's not great to be out in all day! (My god I never thought I'd speak so badly of the sun, being a sun worshipper and all that!)
We had a late 7/11 lunch and went back to shower.
Tonight we are in a restaurant named 'Poo Restaurant' haha! We were preying the food didn't live up to the name! We were relieved when the mixed vegetables and red curry came out tasting extra good!
Had a super cheap day today only spending £22 and that's including the £10 for accommodation tonight! It's a new record - in Thailand! Haha.
