The four hour bus journey from Kanchanaburi to Pak Chong wasn't too bad, the journeys are getting easier and although it sounds awful just cooped up on a uncomfortable airplane style chair, it's really okay. They give us a bottle of water and a small packet of Asian Oreos which are really good and I just watch the world go by and listen to music, The majority of the time Scott is fast asleep catching flies, he's showing his age - big time! I'm adamant he's growing grey hair in his beard but he pipes up fast to reassure me they are blonde hairs, dyed by the sun! Haha.
We arrived in Pak Chong, this tiny little bus 'depot' it was a hut with two benches, a toilet and a women in a little shack. This was behind the petrol station. It was on a busy road, no signs of taxis and the woman that worked there had no idea what the hell we were on about! Luckily a women (stick insect) helped us, they don't have great English but they can string a few sentences together when you get out of the cities. What we made of it was we need to catch a truck to the market and get a bus there, but it's the wrong time now so we have to wait half an hour! Awesome.
So boiling hot we crossed the four lane road - somehow! I don't know how, these bags feel like they're getting heavy in the 30 degree heat!
After around 10-15 minutes a truck did pull up for us and it cost 20B to get down the road to the market, the market was just a few stores on the side of the highway with a bunch of trucks and a few little government buses parked up. Nobody really spoke English here either but they all seemed to know where we were going, they kept shouting 'Khao Yai' to us which was correct yes but now what do we do, just shout back? Then a few oldie looking men wobbled off of their stools and walked towards a blue bus with their shakes Stevens arm out straight, I think helping them balance so if they did fall over they'd be prepared, quick thinking these guys are! Haha.
Say on the bus for what felt like forever, loads of people were getting on, and a woman rocks up with a big trolley full of rice bags (not your average 1kg Tesco smart price bags... These were 10kg sacks! 10 of them!) so we all had to stand up for the driver to get them stashed under the seats. What an absolute palarva! Annoying thing was, that she was stood outside the bus for about 10 minutes with these rice sacks, before hardly anyone had got on the bus. I think she done it on purpose.
Eventually started moving, we went around the block for some reason, scenic route of the market I think because we didn't stop to let anyone on or off and then we stopped at the petrol garage we had arrived at earlier for the driver to get the bus filled up. Urgh, getting a little adjusted now! Why didn't we just get a taxi truck instead of a government bus! Trying to look out for the hotel, a local girl tried to help but she was none the wiser. We pressed the buzzer but nothing happened and then luckily the bus driver stopped smack bang outside the hotel, he had actually remembered where we wanted to go and more to the point - he understood us! Thank god that journey was over. We arrived in Pak Chong at 1pm, we got to the hotel (around 8km away) at 3.30pm.
Couldn't wait to get the bag off out backs and jump in the pool. Our room seemed to be the furthest away, it seemed as though we were in the attic of one of the apartment blocks there because the roof was slanted at one side (so Scott's side, he bumped his head three or four times within five minutes of being there!) the beds were really comfortable, we had a little balcony and the bathroom was pretty big with the best feature of the room - a HOT shower, these surprises make me happy! (This is what my life has boiled down to, getting excited about hot water. WOW!) it didn't even matter that it came out of about 4 holes in the shower head and felt like hail stones on my back because it was so powerful, I loved it! *happy dance*
Jumped in the pool, mistake.
It was so cold, took my breath away the minute my toes touched. Doggy paddled out, that's the best I could do my limbs had froze with shock.
Scott thought he could handle it, he was wrong! I think he held his breath a little and tried to swim a few widths to warm up, to make it look like he could 'handle' the coldness of it. I could see his lips going blue! Haha silly boy.
We had good at the hotel tonight, it was freezing outside compared to the climate we were used to, is say it was about 15 degrees and I had damp hair because the fuse has gone in the adaptor -_- great fun!
Pad thai seemed a safe bet, only when we got it I tasted the peanuts in it. First time we have had peanuts in our pad thai; Scott couldn't taste it at first but I knew as soon as he did because he turned green! Haha. He hates nuts and the dish was full of them. He had to try and peel them away from the chicken and noodles. I don't know how he managed to eat the majority of it but he did. He felt sick all night afterwards though.
I was asleep by 9.15pm so it didn't worry me. Ha!
Early morning tomorrow for our jungle trek!!
