So this morning we had to get the tyre pumped up and we were giving it straight back, I couldn't be bothered with it, if it went flat again or what ever, I just wanted it gone.
So we asked the hotel owner where we could get it done and he pointed at the shop opposite which is where we would have gone to hire the bike if they weren't shut yesterday.
He told us to come back in half hour and he would have changed the tyre for us.
So we had breakfast and go back, he says that something is wrong with the tyre or inner tube and I think something was wonky.
So he pumped it up, and we took it back. I told them that we had changed out plans and were leaving this evening so we wanted to bring it back. The old lady looked a little confused or mad because we are bringing it back early and they were handing us 100 baht over because we only really had one day and not the two. They checked the bike over and it was fine (so they thought) we had our passport back and we were gone! Scott was annoyed I didn't mention the tyre but the bike had already cost us enough, there was no way I was getting charged for something else!
We swiftly moved fast to the pier where we were getting a long tail boat to Railay Bay, it was 300 each return so not too bad. We left about 11am and he waited there for im us until 5pm.
The ride over was a little choppy but we were sat under the tarpaulin and had three people in front of us so we were covered.
We weren't very impressed with Railay as we pulled up on the east beach, the tide was out and there were shrubs and trees growing out of the sand at the shore, tractors driving around digging sand up and I guessed trying to clean it a little.
There are a few hotels there, not many places to eat though, just eat at the hotel restaurants whilst your there I guess!
The like stone mountains were gorgeous though and they turned the sea that emerald green colour, only this sea was warm enough to go in unlike Halong bay.
The west beach was really nice, white sand and limestone mountains, there was kayaking and mountain hanging (the limestone rocks hang out over the water as the base goes in a little so your able to climb a ladder or climb onto the rock off the boat and try free climbing the rock until you fall off into the water) it looked pretty cool!
There was rock climbing there as well which we would have done if we were staying on the beach because we wouldn't have had enough time just in one afternoon.
We had about 3 hours with sun and a few clouds, a few more than usual... About 2.30pm we heard the first rumble of thunder and thought smartly about going into the only little shack restaurant on the beach, we managed to get a table before everyone had the same idea as us. As soon as we sat down it went near enough pitch black and the heavens opened! There's no warning here like there is at home, you know you get the wet rain or dribble or rain before it decides to empty down on you. Here it just comes full force straight away so everyone was running around like blue arse flies jumping in their boats to go back to Ao Nang - which personally I wouldn't have been doing... Getting in a wooden boat on water in a thunderstorm with fork lightning isn't a great idea guys, just saying!
The lightning was AWESOME! Fork lightning everywhere and the thunder was so so loud!! Scott tried to take photos of it instead of a video so he only ever got half of a fork lightning on the photo. The storm went on for a good two hours!
Although after some grub and a sit under a tree to watch a decent storm show we thought we had better go back to the boat because everything was soaking wet and there wasn't much for us to do because we couldn't sit on the beach and there was a cool lagoon in amongst the limestone rocks apparently but dangerous in the rain. We seen loads of people covered in mud coming from that direction, so it did look pretty fun! A little disappointing that we missed it.
We waited for a good 45 minutes for three English people, they eventually arrived after the storm had finished and completely blanked all 6 of us waiting for them and walked in the other direction! Our driver was following them like uhh hello!? time to go, it's raining! But no! So we grabbed two other people and went haha! Stupid people. They're going to have to wait ages to get another boat!
After a choppy ride we got back to the pier at about 5pm; we went and got a smoothie, Scott had Oreo and I had fresh blueberries!
We dodged the cafe by walking through the night market to our hotel, and we narrowly missed getting wet by people wih tubs of water on the back of their trucks. It's thai new year, Songkran festival/water festival. They celebrate by throwing water over each other as it's supposed to mean that the water will purify you and wash all the bad things away for you to have a healthy and successful year.
This evening was bonkers, most places were full because it was New Years so all the thai families were out! There aren't many restaurants about the place anyways so good job we went out early!
Food was alright, we went and got a milkshake from 7/11 and had an early night.
