We had pick up arranged for us to the pier from our hotel, only our hotel was about 400metres away from the pier so we decided to walk and tell the tour operator to ring the pick up guy an let him know.
We managed to find a little cafe open to get a shake each and Scott had two chocolate croissants.
The boat was pretty much empty, we had a row of three seats to ourself to lie down on. Every now and then they would just cut the engine though for long tailed boats to bunk up next to us and off load tourists onto the ferry. They must have been staying in secluded beach huts and the only way of getting back to main land was by boat.
The ride was about two hours long, we got to what looked like a deserted army base pier about 10.30am.
There were a two army boats tied up there so we had to climb over those to get to the mainland, the army were holding a walkway between their boat and the land for us to walk on, it was a little strange!
You could see the limestones on the mainland as we arrives, I thought that they were only on the coast but I'm obviously wrong!
We grabbed a taxi and were at the hotel in no time. Krabi town is a ghost town! Maybe because it's Sunday and it's thai new year tomorrow? We only seen about 6 people on the road, so it was a little freaky.
The hotel seemed nice, we couldn't go to our rooms until gone twelve because they hadn't cleaned it. So we went in search of a sports bar for Scott tonight but no luck, everywhere has their shutters down and boarded up.
We started looking on the Internet and it seems as though 16km away there is a beach resort with bars and restaurants called 'Ao Nang' so yeas we had booked the wrong end of Krabi because jack all goes on here!
We went and got a spot of lunch, found one of those family restaurants that are supposed to have cheap noodle soup... The most expensive noodle soup to date. £4 for the both of us! Ridonculous!!
Next job was to find somewhere to rent a moped, the place opposite was shut so the guy at our hotel sent us down the road to a local bakery where we could hire a bike, we decided on two days as we wanted to go over to Ao Nang and if we were to do a boat trip we would have to go over to Ao Nang to get it because they were doing pick up from Krabi Town due to the new year and the traffic there will be. If we didn't take the scooter it would be a 500 baht taxi ride for one way. Which is just too expensive for a return ticket which is what we would have needed.
We got the posh scooby one that was a dream to drive according to Scott. Haha!
This evening we took a ride over to Ao Nang, the limestone rocks were absolutely incredible on the way there, they were all different colours of yellow and greys; with trees on top! The area was gorgeous. It was like being in a rainforest jungle!
So Nang is definetly the place to be over Krabi Town, it's a lot more lively with bars and restaurants, hotels and plenty of tourists! The ride had come right in so there wasn't much beach to see; we realised that there aren't any places here where you can park your car in the day time without getting fined. It was fine at night just not for us to leave it in the same spot all day. This ment that we can't do the boat tour or we pay £20 on top of the tour for taxi. Or we come here and stay a night or two.
We grabbed a bite to eat and looked at some hostels to stay in in Ao Nang once we check out of the other hotel the day after next. We checked the our operators and we can do the boat trip for cheaper here and still get a direct bus to Malaysia from here so our plan is in place!
To kill some time before going to the Irish bar to watch the football we had a thai massage, it was only 200baht each which is the cheapest we have seen since north Thailand! They were really good, apart from the guy next to us with the curtains around him having a 'happy/VIP' massage! I needed ear plugs. I don't know what was going on but I didn't want to hear him.
Finally we gave in and went to the Irish bar around 8.30pm, we had a few games of pool and I spotted a thick welsh accent in the background! Three welsh lads from Wrexham were there, we've met hardly any welsh people since we have been away and in the last two weeks we have met quite a few! They've all come over at once!
The game eventually started and I could barely keep my eyes open! The first half dragged so much! The boys from Wrexham were Man Utd fans aswell so quadruple trouble when Man Utd scored FOUR times against Man City. FOUR times I had to go through the embarrassment of Scott nearly jumping on the bar dancing and screaming!
So now the fun starts... 12am midnight we jump on the bike. We drive not even 5 metres and we notice that the tyre is flat! So instead of us using our brains and stopping to think of possibilities what we could do it what could happen... We carried on to try and find somewhere to pump the tyre up, but it's midnight and it's Thai new year. Of course everything is shut! The police were setting up their check points. We got just outside of Ao Nang, (i can't believe we were going to try and drive it 16km back to Krabi town with a flat tyre!) it really went flat now so we had to drive back slowly, we stopped at the police check and asked if there was anywhere we could pump the tyre. 'No. Aw! 7am. Tomorrow. No. Tomorrow. 7am. New year.' Aww s***.
Next plan of attack, take it back to the Irish pub and see if we could park it outside off the road safe and we would have to come back tomorrow morning and find somewhere to pump the tyre, this would mean two taxis back and forth Krabi town (one tonight and one tomorrow morning, at 500 baht each way)
...Then I had a brain wave, I've seen these people put the bikes in the back of these trucks converted into taxis! Let's try it! Scott wasn't convinced but when we got close to the Irish bar and we found a truck taxi parked up, I got off an asked. He would take us and the motorbike back for 600baht which would save us from coming back to Ao Nang tomorrow to collect the bike and it mess up our plans to go to Railay bay.
Getting the bike in the back of this van was absolutely hilarious, two thai men and Scott! Haha. I stood there and looked pretty!
Then the task for us to get in, and we had to hold the bike in the truck the whole way back.
we went through the police check, they shone the light in the back of the taxi on us and looked bewildered, you could tell they were thinking 'what the Eff....'
So happy that we managed to get the bike home, we seen one petrol station the whole way back to Krabi town where we could have pumped the tyre up! It was a blessing in disguise that we had the puncher in Ao Nang and not half way home because it would have been a long lush home!
Scott is still adamant it's a scam. Haha!
The mission to get it off the bike was harder because there wasn't a high pavement for then to rest it on and Scott was still in the taxi navigating from the front so the two little thai men had the full weight of the moped, I had to laugh because I would have cried!
It was such a coincident that they didn't have change on them any more than 200 baht so the taxi ended up costing us 800 baht and not 600 baht! This night is just. the. Best.
We locked the bike outside the hotel under the cameras, we were fart arsing about with it for a good 15 minutes on where to position it, not wanting it to get knocked or pinched.
Not that it would I doubt because nobody really takes much interest in one another's bikes here. Ad who would want it with a flat tyre anyways!? They wouldn't get very far!
I face planted my pillow as soon as we got in and pretty sure I didn't move all night long!
