The last four days have flown by, lounging on the beach and trying to tackle some serious waves has been so much fun! We thought the waves were big in Goa... They're easy 8ft here you get the odd one that's higher as well!
I've learnt (from the amateur 'pro') that I have five under them before they collapse and take you for a whirl wind under the water smashing your knees on the floor and snorting water up your nose! - that happened more often than not with me because I'm not a fab of putting my head under the water in the sea.. I hate not being able to see my feet once I get so far out, so I just tread water as doggy paddle around too scared to put my feet down in case I squish something or a shell runs over my foot. I did pluck up the courage on day 2 and went a little further out (breast stroking, didn't put my feet down of course) but then I seen a fish jumping around so the sea was a total no go for the rest of the day! On day 3 Scott decides to swim under the water (where I can't see him) and try to grab my feet... Fair to say I think he had concussion because I kicked him in terror it was a ginormous fish trying to drag me under the water! ...I think way too much about the possibilities and get myself worked up too much!
I'm travelling with such a big kid, he's almost as bad here with the sea as he was with the elephants! I can't get him out, just see him floating on top if the waves, diving underneath them, trying to hurdle over the top of them, flapping about like a little kid! It's quite funny! You know that every time he comes back out of the sea it's only because his hands are too 'pruned' that he can't touch anything or close his hands together because he's been in there so long, he's going to say 'aw those waves are awesome mind, one took me right under and I was floating on the top... I'm a pro now mind' haha! He's too funny.
Varkala is really nice though, still a lot of yoga here; the price of food is a little more expensive than Goa and the beer is about 70-80rupees more expensive than Goa which adds up when you have 2 or 3. We haven't drunk much here, the will power held out! We had our first beer on Monday night which would have been ten days since we last drunk! Quite proud of us considering it's Christmas and it's a perfect excuse to drink!
On Monday we met up with a few people that we met in Alleppey and Munnar and a couple we had met here that day, it was a sort of spooky coincidence because somehow most of us had all met somewhere along our trips just in different places! - such a small world!
I really like how the beach is down from a huge cliff and all along the cliff for about 2km there are bars, restaurants and hotels dotted along it, it's such a relaxed atmosphere and wherever you stay along that strip your always on top of everything because there is something going on every night between live music and football playing -_-.
We were recommended the 'koffee temple cafe' for breakfast and snacks, it's run by an English man and he has 'proper' English food, marmite, imported chocolate for hot chocolate, English bacon and not the rubbish fatty ham, granola and cornflakes... It's so good! The cappuccinos are made in costa coffee an cafe Nero cups, it's like being at an open aired costa coffee - just better!
Scott made a proposition for me the wednesday morning... To start following an Indian football team, because they have started their first Indian football league here in India with about 6 or 7 teams, they're on the semi finals of it the week so it's a little late starting for us but he guessed we could start supporting them because it's not just started out and I think a lot of it is because he's trying to ease me slowly into liking football and eventually start supporting an English team... There is a very high possibility that that will never happen! Haha. We went with Goa because we went there first and loved it and they're really patriotic for their team with all the roundabouts full with banners and footballs and flags hanging from the street lights supporting them which i thought was really cool. They were playing the semi final Wednesday night against Kolkata... They lost 4-2 on penalties. So that's how long it lasted me supporting a football team, can't say I never tried haha! Until next year that is anyways...
Scott has got so desperate to play football and do some kick ups he has resorted to trying to do kick ups with moisturising tub... Bless! It's one of those 'you can take the boy out of football but you can't take the football out of the boy' sort of thing!
Scott had all the old biddies 'awwing and cooing' this afternoon as he was going around the beach to each do and trying to feed them our left over water from a mini cream tub! Fruit loop.. The sun I has gotten to his head!
Can't believe our time is nearly up in India!
The passed four weeks have own by for us! But more exciting things to do and see so we can't stick around here forever!
