A little nervous this morning to say the least when I couldn't find the lizard... Where the hell has Larry gone! If I take him to Kerela in my bag and he randomly pops out I will not be a happy bunny!
Back is in half, the mattress just as well not have been there, it was like lying on concrete and the pillow is like rock! Definitely in need of a back massage on the beach Sunday morning!
Booked our flight from kochi to Mumbai today for the 21st December. Took ages because the power went out.. Again.
The animal whisperer was following the crabs around today to see where they'd go and see them run down their holes.. He threw a flip flop to see if they would run/crawl what ever they do and he caught one with his flip flop not meaning to hit one, he did try his hardest to see whether he would walk but he didn't so had to put him out of his misery! Aw the animal whisperer has a bad omen on him! Naughty naughty. He did make up for it though by trying to put a big crab back into the water, claims he lost his way up the beach. He had his fighting claws out though haha, he was ready ready to pinch him! And he fed dogs with water in coconut shell.
The trainee David attinbrough brought back some sort of crab like thing in a shell to show me. Well into his nature haha, and last night couldn't get him in the taxi because he was stroking the puppy, when I did he was hanging out the window making sure we didn't run over it because the puppy was following him! Unbelievable, worse than a Ross when he was a trainee zoo keeper/animal tamer. Haha!
We walked miles today, don't know where we ended up or what beach it was but had fun in the waves, they were huge. Wedding was going on up the road and had some cracking tunes blasting out.
Walking back we seen three fishermen with their huge fishing bet, taking it out into the sea about waist deep, opening it up and dragging it back slowly, they were catching lots of fish, couple of really big ones which worried me as I was out further than that earlier -_-
They caught a mini sting ray aswell which they let go. Obviously not enough meat on him!
Had a lovely surprise when I arrived back at the room, sat on the bed.. Gary the grasshopper drops down from the ceiling to see me on the bed! Between Larry the lizard, Gary the grasshopper, Marvin the moth, Alan the ant and sid the spider we might aswell be in the bloody jungle with those celebrities! Don't get me started on Mosquitos... They don't stay around long enough for names, I've killed about six since yesterday in here! They'll have pebble dashed look on the walls by the time we leave, I'll call it 'mosquito la boux' my specialty in interior design!
Had a right mare this evening, firstly we couldn't get money out at the ATM in Mandrem so a local told us there was another one '300 yards down he road' was it heck! Asked another local after about 800 yards where the nearest ATM was and he said about '5-10 minutes walk, 1.5km' what! He gave it a go and booked a taxi. It was about 3km down the road! The one ATM only allowed you to take 2000 out per time and the other 4000 at a time, so back we went! We were recommended Cafe Nu by a friend... Got there, it was busy, looked really nice... The menu was about 3 pages long mostly fish and at least twice the price we have normally been paying, so tonight we had to make a run away quickly and not look back! Then we were searching for somewhere with wifi, spotted what looked like a nice restaurant on the rooftop of a hotel so went on up, asked to look at the menu and it seemed okay so stayed.. It had a white markee with a Russian waitress and Nepalese over enthusiastic chef showing us the menu and what to order. He basically took the menu out of Scott's hands to tell him what to order as 'what he like?'
Well since in India we have discovered to never judge a book by it's cover, but we couldn't help it! I wasn't really feeling this place after we ordered and I think Scott was too. They put ice in Scott's coke so he decided not to drink it which was a wise decision I think!
Scott had crispy chicken for starters, they looked good and different.. They had cornflakes as batter, it was so funny! They were good and the chicken was cooked well so all good. Our curries were really good too, with extra garlic as asked, but each curry literally had a full garlic each in it I think, the curry was full of it!
We were right to never judge a book by it's cover!
We needed to find some wifi though to look at hotels in kerela... We walked down the mandrem strip about 3 times, I nearly gate crashed a Hindu wedding party, I was drawn to the music! Good job an Indian man stopped me in my tracks on my way down the path and said it was a Hindi wedding party and the wedding is tomorrow. That would have been a good present, a European at a Hindi wedding!
Then we went into spice of life restaurant and bar as they said they have wifi even though we only wanted a drink. So we sat had a drink and then he tells us the wifi isn't working.. That's a coincident.
Got back to the hotel, two men sat on reception (bodyguards) well the old man and woman who I think own the hotel have a dog, lovely dog, Scott was stroking him yesterday.. He starts barking a lot and angrily. I just stand still and smile nervously. Scott walks of the path and onto the dirt a little, this dog is seriously angry, showing teeth! Scott is backing up massively, jumping every time he barks, this dog wasn't going to listen to the old man shouting at him! I thought he was going to bite Scott. Wasn't until the older lady came out that the dog stopped and listened, I just ran inside and locked the door. We don't want rabies thanks!
Scott asked the man afterwards why he was barking. He barks at night, at who he thinks are intruders. You have to stand still and smile and he will back off. I probably would have kicked him if he had come at us and wouldn't stop if the old guy wasn't there.
Bed time on the rock with the rock pillow and a stomach tablet to stop the right of passage beginning!
