Caught the bus at the top of the road from our villa, the manager/host came and met us at the top and waited with us until the bus came because some buses don't have the English writing on them to where they're going. Which was really nice of him!
The bus was late, of course! We are in India ya know?!
Quickly jumped on because they don't really stop, they just slow down.
Slight problem, couldn't fit our bags up on the luggage racks because the gap was way too small! So we piled them next to window on one of the three bay seats and sat next to them, completely forgetting that the front couple of rows are for women only. So Scott had to move and I was left with propping the luggage up for five hours, which of course left me know air coming through the window which meant I would be boiling for the entire five hour journey to Alleppey!
On the plus side... Scott made a 'bus friend' straight away, showing him on the map where we lived. Flipping looney!
The bus journey felt like forever! First I had a woman sit next to me that stunk of pee and then the next was a young girl who had a huge rucksack and two presents in a carrier bag on her lap, she fell asleep and kept leaning on me and her bags were literally on my lap! I kept moving and pushing them off, as if I wasn't already crushed enough! Minding my own business and listening to my music, I open my eyes to see not only the 70 seats on the bus full but around 50-60 people crammed up against each other like sardines in the isle it was funny to see but they must be so uncomfortable! I couldn't believe how many people where on this bus and it was still able to keep up a good speed! Marvellous piece of junk metal!
Scott wrote a 'secret message' on his phone and asked me to read it on the bus... I burst out laughing! The guy that was sat next to him had been stroking his stomach and thigh with his little finger for the past three hours! Haha! No wonder he looked constipated and uncomfortable every time I turned around to check he was still there! I could not stop giggling to myself and all the school girls were giggling at me. In the end Scott had to start speaking to him in hope he would stop stroking him! It worked... The two men were civil engineers and travel to Munnar once a week - what a crappy deal 10 hours travelling in one day for work! Their salary is 1000US dollars per month, that's around £640 per month before taxes. For a CIVIL ENGINEER! He's got tucked right up there! But that's a very rich man here in India, the cost of loving is cheap so even the higher paid jobs are paid rubbish!
We arrived, thankfully it had stopped raining for five minutes for us to get a tuk tuk!
The auto rickshaws are even cheaper in Kerala, it's costing about 40-50 rupees maximum on average every time we jump in one!
The guesthouse is lovely, ironic name 'happy rooms guesthouse' we had a much needed shower and straight out for food! The owner of the guesthouse gave us a lift to a local restaurant which was really nice of him, said it was part of his service! N'aaaww! Bless him!
I had some random old Indian guy come around to our table and inspect my rice really closely, I felt like shooing him away! The waiters did have a squeaky shout at him though I think, but it's hard to tell when they're angry or not here they all speak to loud and shorty and flap their arms about so it's hard to tell!
