The Awesome Foursome
We got up early this morning, and after a rushed breakfast we headed off in a minibus on a 'Death Railway' tour.
Our first stop on the tour was to a waterfall up in the hills. The waterfall was amazing, it was set under a green canopy of trees and the rounded rocks it tumbled over made it look like some sort of indoor swimming pool extravaganza.
As we headed to the minibus the sky clouded over and it started to rain, this added to the sombre mood of our next stop, 'hellfire pass' where the POWs were made to cut through rock to make way for the railway, and their shadows in the campfires gave the pass its name. The pass had an eerie feel and the hellfire pass museum illustrated just how bad the construction of the death railway was.
However the mood was lightened by an amusing incident involving Barry sitting on our tour guide's sunglasses just as we were watching a depressing video - good ole Baz! Our guide spent the rest of the tour ignoring poor Barry!
After lunch we headed to a hot spring/spa for an hour of relaxation and swimming; however us four decided the stench of the spa (like public toilets - pooey!) was enough to make us just brave dipping our toes in and nothing else!
Next up we got to a station where we would catch the train on the death railway, but first we walked along the railway tracks (scary beary!) to a cave with a temple and lots of bats in it, bit creepy!
After the cave we got on the train and travelled along the 'death railway', there were stunning views along the way and the best bit was going over the river kwai bridge (well replicar bridge, obviously!).
After doing the touristy bit of taking photos of the Kwai bridge, we headed back for what would become a dinner amongst wildlife - namely lizards and frogs and lots of them!
We finished a fantastic day with a great chic flick 'somethings gotta give', not sure Baz and Mart appreciated it much though!
