Hey everyone!
Not much has happened since last time. I am really hitting the book in spanish. There is still so much I dont know! I have an interview placement test next week, so I am working hard now so I can do well. Its just a placement for our classes for the rest of training, the next 6 weeks. The only thing to report, really, is that we saw the ambassador of Peru today. He talked alot about his experiences, what he likes and dislikes about the country, the administration, and other things. It was pretty interesting. We had to address him as "Mr. Ambassador" and stand for all of our questions. I also shook his hand. I didnt get a picture though. He said that most of the people who become ambassadors have connections to Washington. So its almost impossible for us Peace Corps Volunteers to become one unless we spend many years playing the game. I dont know if I would want to be one anyway. It seems like alot of work, alot of politics, and alot of talking to people. And really, deep down, I love living in America. We have so many advantages that even Europe doesnt have. Even the wide open spaces, I miss.
We also had a good 4 hours of power points on HIV and AIDS. I am pretty sure we have another 2 hours coming up. Apparently lots of volunteers become involved in relationships with Peruvians. And apparently some of them have HIV. I think this can be easily remedied by NOT STARTING A RELATIONSHIP! We are all leaving after 2 years anyway. The Peace Corps Office also warned us that most of the relationships started with natives end, and not too pretty either. So why would people start it, if they know its going to end soon anyway? And get HIV in the process. Maybe I am just too logical for 6 hours of HIV talk.
Anyway, sorry to complain. I am starting to miss home more and more, as time goes on. Probably the lack of communication with friends and family. I can't really call them at any time of the day, and I always seem to be busy! Which is good. Always something to do here! I am going to give a presentatin on pumps in a few weeks. I am pretty excited about that. Its nerdy, I know, but think of the possabilities! We can supply water to communities!
Hope all is well in the states!
Happy Travels,
Teigan
