Today we went on a full day tour round the jungle. We got on a boat and were taken a couple of hours down a river to get to the Tambopata national reserve. We felt like we were having a photoshoot on the boat as the guide encouraged us to pose on the nose of boat in front of lots of passengers who were not even on our tour. We trekked for a couple of hours and had lunch in a specially built resting area in the middle of the jungle and lazed about for a while in hammocks. Unfortunately whilst trekking Eddy dropped her camera whilst the zoom was open and it broke. Afterwards we trekked to Lake Sandoval and got in a canoe. The guide paddled us around the entire lake and we saw black camen, turtles, giant otters, monkeys and lots of different birds. It was a really hot day and we felt very sunned after a few hours on the lake. As a break from the sun we disembarked on a bank next to a very rickety viewing tower. The view was amazing. We sat on the bank of the lake and the guide tried to catch a piranha using line, a hook and his hands. We both had a go at fishing but didn't manage to catch anything! The guide managed to catch a couple of fish but not piranhas. We found out afterwards that fishing is actually illegal at the lake to prevent harm to the protected giant otters from hooks. We trekked back through the jungle to the river, Eddy fell over on the way and ended up with a very muddy bum. It was dark whilst we were travelling back to the town which was the ideal time for white camen spotting. The guide shone a torch along the bank as we cruised up the river which highlighted the eyes of the camen. The guide managed to catch a baby camen and we both had a go at holding it. We also saw some capybaras which are the largest rodent in the world. We arrived back at our hostel and ate some more thai food before relaxing and having a few drinks by the pool.
