This morning we took a flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado. We arrived at the Anaconda Lodge and were shown to our cabin, this was massive, had two floors and slept 6 people! The lodge had 4 baby monkeys which are so cute and friendly. You can pick them up and they come and sit on your lap for cuddles!
At lunch we met a girl called Lizzie who was travelling alone. We went and chilled by the pool with her for a bit, she offered us some oreos and I took one but one monkey decided it was his and was climbing all over me to get it - he eventually did! Browny kept telling me to eat it but I was concerned he was going to try and grab my mouth!
The lodge owner Donald then gave us a tour of the lodge showing us all the different fruits and species of plants. He had trees and fruits from all over the world and was very pleased with how he now had the final ingredient growing for his wife to make red Thai curry!
Later we went into the town with Lizzie and some of the volunteers. They tried to make us eat some grilled caterpillars but Browny and I were having none of it! Lizzie tried one and said it was ok but quite slimy and gooey so I was pretty glad I had said no! We then had some fruit from the market which tasted really nice although I cannot remember the name of it! The volunteers then asked if we wanted to go and climb the tower which looked out over the town and jungle, we said yes and then they emphasised how we would have to 'climb' up it. By this point I was expecting to have to climb up the outside of it but it turned out to just be quite a lot of stairs! We got to the top and watched the sunset which was really nice.
We then came back from the town and had some dinner before showering and heading to the pool for some candle lit drinks with some of the volunteers and other guests. Off on our day tour tomorrow!
