This morning we were woken early by our families for a breakfast of pancakes and bread rolls. We then said goodbye to Roberta and her husband and were taken down to the docks ready to get our boat to Taquille Island. We boarded the boat and waved goodbye to our host families before our one hour ride over to Taquille, an island with around 3500 inhabitants.
Leaving the boat we had a 40 minute hike to the main square where we arrived not really sure what we were supposed to be doing. Our guide was being particularly unhelpful and was looking a bit worse for wear this morning. After a quick wander around the handicraft shop we were lead to where we were to have lunch. Browny, Anthony and I were all still full from breakfast and didn't fancy another quinoa soup and potato style lunch and so decided against getting anything. Browny and I had a few packets of cookies left to keep us going before getting back to Puno!
The view from lunch was beautiful and looked right out over the lake. We had a short talk from our guide about the different clothes that the habitants wear. He told us about how the boys and single men wear one kind of hat and married men wear another type. Men who are not married but are living with a woman also wear the single mans hat but they wear it on a different side to single men!
After lunch we headed back down to the dock to get the boat back to Puno. On the way down my ankle twisted and I had a small fall ripping a hole in my chinos, the second pair of trousers to be ripped this trip! So I'm now only left with a pair of jeans and some trackies!
The three hour boat ride was taken up mostly by napping and soon we were back in our hostel in Puno. Here we met a British girl called Katie who seemed nice and we chatted to her for a while before going to get some dinner. On the way to dinner we bumped into Anthony and Sebastian who decided to stay at the same hostel as us and came to dinner with us too. Whilst looking for somewhere to eat we bumped into two other people from our tour, Melanie and David, who also decided to join us. We had a nice meal and on the way home Browny and I treated ourselves to a bar of chocolate! We then watched the Patriot back at the hostel, which I fell asleep in towards the end, and then headed to bed.
